Had a guy qualify for the marathon trials. That's all I am aware of.
Someplace for the FM kids to go when they get out/drop out/or decide not to go to college
Their results don't look very elite
Don't think their kids routinely drop out or decide not to go to college...absurd.
From their website:
To keep this fair since it seems these guys are routinely attacked on these boards, their group has been going for a year. Two Olympic Trials qualifiers in one year, starting from no where, seems like a great start to me.
Seems like trolling to me, and yes, hating, as usual.
Their cross nationals race actually wasnt bad at all considering their closeness to the teams ahead of them. And looking at what most runners on their roster have done in their running careers, seems to me that they shouldn't have done nearly THAT well against teams like the Asics Aggies, Northwest, and some others. Look at Pacers Brooks, as an example. Coached by Matt Centrowitz? They were only a small margin in front of Stotan, and have been in action for longer
Having seen the product of the Arises with the FM teams for years first hand (an incredible thing, only those who have seen can truly know), my guesses are these,
1. They had to fill a roster in their first year, and took on some runners with no credentials so that they could get stared.
2. They can only do so much with what they got last year. If these guys get their hands on some very talented runners, watch out. My guess is that within a few years they will have exactly that and will be making some headlines.
3. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Make no mistake, this will be something awesome. Look at their mens marathon Q, CFred Joslyn. He ran for the Hansons for some time, also NYAC, and the best they ever got him to was 2:24. He runs 2:21 at Chicago last year, then 2:18:49 at New Orleans last month. Pretty damn impressive if you ask me.
i heard that if the kranicks have their name brought up on a letsrun message board they threaten with a lawsuit. these guys should do it too. didnt i read on these boards somewhere recently that some woman won a legal suit for message board rumors?
Joslyn does seem like a success story for Stotan. Ran for Hansons for 2 years, ran a 2:24 and a 2:27. Within one year runs a two and half minute PR followed by an additional PR of two and half minutes. Imagine if they pulled in a few 2:12-2:14 guys to begin with.
exactly...I'd love to see a marathoner group started with these guys. thats over a 5 minute PR in one year of being with the team. It can take years for adjustment to new coaches to take hold. Let's get these guys some mid-teens marathoners now!

Sometimes a guy needs to be top dog. The Joslyn guy has that now. He was not capable of being top dog with the Hansons. I don't know this guy at all but I bet that he was probably not a D1 guy. He was probably able to be top dog at a smaller college. He is now back to that same atmosphere which is a much better fit.

Joslyn ran for SUNY Cortland, 14:50ish kind of guy, helped recruit many of the runners that won Cortland a couple of National Championships.
Which was probably the #1 man or close to it? That is the same situation he is in now. Good fit.
The real questions are these: what have other brand new groups like this done in their first year? How good were the runners when they came to the group vs where they are today? Where will they be in five years in 2016? I find it very impressive that they have a male and female qualifier in one year's time. a good start.
Joslyn ran 1426, and 2955 at cortland.
Top dog? How bout Only Dog! There isnt another male marathoner on their roster yet! comparing to other groups at one year in is the right way, in both numbers of talented guys, in results, in everything. Just the beginning, id take that bet. Im wairing until at least 2014 before making any of my judgements. So far looks like they are on the right track. I'll be interested in who they pick up this spring, some good talents graduating out of NYS and surrounding states.
Looking at the resume's Stotan actually has a solid group of 800 guys several sub 1:50 guys.
I saw that same thing. Actually makes their clubs race even that much more impressive. No 800 guys are handling 10k xc easily.
Could produce some decent track reslts within a few years at 1500/mile, 1000, 800, 3k with that mid d nucleus. Funny that seems to be the routine their high sxhool program uses. Strength program with xc results and mid d racing on track.
These guys just need recruits. Once they get some good guys at the marathon they'll be set up very well i thnk. Also, kudos to joslyn on majorly improving in such a short time. Maybe he can recruit for his new team as you say he recruited for his college team.
what are they doing? wrote:

Any poster who says "I'm not trying to hate" does so because he knows he is about to say something easily construed as hating. And yet, this thread is generating great positive publicity for a group many probably hadn't even heard of.
Don't think their kids routinely drop out or decide not to go to college...absurd. (quote New England Runner)
Not sure who said they routinely drop out of college or don't go to college. So why would it be absurd? what's absurd is your quick defense of a program that doesn't really need any defense. If you get out of high school there are pretty much 2 options. You either go to college or you don't. If you decide to go to college, there are also 2 options. You finish or you don't. Pretty simple. The Arises are offering an opportunity to anybody that takes any of those options. They are having reasonable success on the open level. What I don't get is why so many people are quick to start an argument over nothing. Perhaps a little less guilt would be a good thing?
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
