I paced a very attractive woman to a 4:20-something 1500 in a sparsely populated all-comers meet in ass-awful heat and humidity some years ago. That was fun, but I wound up paying a strange price for it thanks to an unlikely photo in the paper the next day. This account really has little to do with the original subject except for the part about there being 4:30 or faster 1500 by a good-looking woman in a mixed race; I just like talking about myself sometimes.

I believe that her coach is having her run more miles and build strength by running longer races. Not sure but that is my very uneducated guess.

Def one of the slowest 1500 PRs I've ever heard of for a 1:57! And with what, a 53-high 400 PR? Crazy.

What's crazy about having relatively poor stamina?

VERY poor stamina AND unimpressive speed (for that level). Definitely a "pure" 800-type a la Kipketer.

If you look you will see that few runners were close to their seed times. I vaguely remember that it was not a fast venue, but is have been almost 30 years since I taught at Trinity.

Kipketer's 400m speed was in line with that of Coe and Cruz and he was at least a sub-4 min miler.

She was taller than I thought she would be. Her kit was a big hit with all the guys to say the least.

Nichole Jones looked terribly out of shape, she ran the 1500 in Nike Frees and lead until the last 600 and then she got blown away.

I would have run a 4:31.

Trinity is a wide open track and not as nice as UIW's.

It was extremely windy yesterday during the early races, but the 5K had perfect weather. A lot of the seed times were fudged across the board.

Kipketer was barely a sub-4 minute miler. Cruz ran 3:36, I believe. Johnny Gray run 4:06. None of these people would earn a living in the 1500.

If you're a 400/800 type, it doesn't matter. How many 800/1500 types have a 52-point 400 PR like Jelimo has?

Good for Maggie's coach for doing some overdistance training, but that's not where her strength comes from.

Why are you so "sure" that Vessey went "flat out" in this race and that it "accurately reflects" her true "ability" in an "event" she surely has no "plans" to "explore" "seriously"? She also "raced" "17:20" for "5K" a couple of "years" ago -- maybe she should have either "retired" or "started hammering out" more "mileage."

Bershawn Jackson has been "known" to race the "800 meters" for "training" "purposes" in around 1:53. That's pretty "slow" for a guy with his "quarter" "speed." Why the hell is HE "still" "hurdling"?

I think most people "realize" that when someone is "used to" a "two-lap race," a 1500 or mile isn't the "easiest thing" to "race well" the first time "out." Tactics "aside," "Vessey" could probably run "4:25" the next time out without "consciously changing anything."

But "damn," you might as well "bag on her" for presumably not being able to "bang out" a three-hour "marathon." "Christ."
