i cried straight throught that. Good for him.
I went to Catholic school, the teachers didn't need seminars or movies to learn how to stop bullying.... they just did it the Irish way, that is, physical, kick ass, take names later... no one messed with the Irish Christian brothers. Looking back, 98% of us appreciate what they did for us.
That was touching. Although I've got a sick feeling that kid's going to get his ass kicked even worse once he gets back to school. Hopefully it'll just toughen him up for Parris Island
I don't get why we let kids who kick people's asses off the hook. If my buddies and I went out and beat someone up and it was caught on camera, we'd face battery charges. And rightly so. Why don't we treat these thugs the way that we would treat any other group of people who beat up a child?
My dad's brother has Downs, and when he was mainstreamed, some of the kids bullied him. That went on until my dad, his other brothers, and the other neighborhood kids (poor Irish Catholic neighborhood, serious unity) mobbed three kids who were picking on him, picked them up by their arms and legs, spread eagled them, and rammed them into telephone poles. That nonsense got stopped right quick after that happened.
Kids will be kids, and there should be a lot more explicit tolerance on the part of parents and administrators for kids who fight back with worse than they were given.
Good on this kid for keeping a positive outlook though, not getting bitter, kid seemed pretty collected even when clearly overwhelmed, got a good head on his shoulders, I wish him the best.
DeSean Jackson and the Eagles taking the time to appear and to support that young man and his family made my day. Positive news.
The 13 year old did the right thing by taking a stand and is correct that if this is not addressed someone else could get seriously injured, or worse. That is why these bullies continue to bully and hurt others, no one faces them down. Underneath most bullies is a person who has been teased or broken down by another bully.
I can't believe I wasted 7 minutes watching that. Does that kid think that he is special that some older kids jerked around with him? This goes on at every school. It's not right but getting dragged in the snow and then hung on a fence is nothing compared to what a lot of kids get. Notice how there was no mention of his injuries, which I assume did not exist. Next week will the View put a kid on who got a wedgie in gym class?
Nothing like this ever happened at any of my schools, probably even my high school. I was in upper middle class neighborhoods though (except high school, that are was more middle middle class) so maybe that was why. It never seemed like much of a problem to me but that's because my eyes never really saw a lot of bad stuff. The only kids who got beat up in high school were kids who had consensually taken part in the fight or maybe if they were a MAJOR douche and had it coming.

Mmmmm, yhat makes bullying sound HOT.
Seriously though, this kid didn't stand up to the bullies. They got arrested, and he was praised for... taking it?
I wish him the best, but the title of this thread is really misleading.
Regardless, 99.9% of people (yourself included) would keep their mouth shut because they are too scared or embarrassed to address what happened.
Good story and it was great seeing those eagles players support him.

What does that have to do with it? Nobody who actually was there addressed it, and now the bullies are going to court.
Justice was served without anybody actually DOING anything. All I have to do is call the police when something shitty happens to me, and I'm suddenly brave? Since when?
I was terrorized for 2 years in middle school by an older boy. For some reason I was afraid to stand up for myself, yet if someone else was bullied I could step in. I have tried really hard to teach my kids to stand up for themselves and others. My son is small for his age and has had to fight against a few different bullies both to defend himself and his younger sisters. He has learned that a well placed punch is all it takes. He has also been taught to walk away once the bully is stopped. Kids need to be taught to be confident and how to fight when they need to. I don't want any of my kids to go through what I went through.
Extremely misleading. This kid seem very intelligent - extremely well spoken for his age, but he didn't do any standing up...which is okay. There are millions of people getting bullied on and it is a problem without a doubt, but I don't see how the interview is going to help bullying. Do you think there are 13 year olds watching the view feeling sorry?
I was pretty small for my age and for two years lived in this hick town in Indiana where I was just terrorized by a couple of redneck kids. A couple of months before I moved away I got fed up and put an absolute beatdown on an older kid on the bus and no one messed with me after that. I wasn't even reported by the bus driver because he had watched what had happened to me for so long and was probably glad I finally stuck up for myself. Who knew it was that easy?
Kids are strange, because after I moved a couple of kids were picking on me constantly until another guy started inviting me to play football at recess and after school. I was a good football player despite my size and started making friends through those games. Including the two guys that were hassling me. I asked one of them a few months later why he stopped picking on me and he said "we saw how good of a football player you were so we figured you were cool". I've never figured out how that made a difference, but back then I wasn't about to complain.
To all of you who say this happens at every school, what did you do to stop it?
I had a friend when I was in 9th grade. We rode the bus with some white trash seniors who insisted we were "f******" and "pussies." I didn't say much back, but one day my friend mouthed off. They told him to meet them at some location and I was supposed to come. I didn't come. Luckily they didn't show up that night, but the next day after school, the kids went over to his house and beat him to a pulp. He doesn't have vision in his left eye and lost about 8 teeth. My best friend will never be the same because of these idiots who think they can live life with no consequences.
That is awful! Did his parents not press charges? Luckily my kids haven't come across anything that brutal. My boy is only 13 and not in high school yet. One thing I have done with my kids is have them train with some of the best martial artist fighters in the southeast. My two oldest girls, 15 and 10, are as tough as nails now. None of the 12 and under boys like fighting my 10 year old. My 6 year old is doing pretty well, too. She enjoys doing take downs and spralls more so than the sparring cause she is tiny. I just think it is so important for all 4 of my kids to be able to defend themselves and to know what to do without hesitation if a situation arises. Anyway, hope your friend is doing better in life now.

NOT A BELIEVABLE STORY, THIS IS AMERICA AND THE COPS WOULD HAVE ARRESTED THESE PEOPLE FOR ASSAULT. SCHOOLS TEACHING ABOUT BULLYING ARE JUST TRYING TO STIGMATIZE OUR CHILDREN. THE VAST MAJORITY OF KIDS ARE GOOD, THE TRULY BAD SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR THEIR TRANSGRESSIONS....BUT YOU DON'T NEED A SCHOOL TO BE INVOLVED, THEIR MISSION IS TO EDUCATE.
I've worked in the inner city schools for years. This kind of thing is commonplace. Not unusual for knives and guns to become involved, even at this young age.
What scares me, is this kid (and most posters) want the same thing to happen to these bullies. The adults had to put words in his mouth that he wanted "Legal Justice". No, what this kids really wants is for them to be terrorized back. This eye for an eye mentality is what creates such cycle of violence. I guarantee that those bullies probably get the Sh*t beat out of them at home . . . then they come to school and just do the same thing to others. This kid didn't stand up to the bullies, standing up would be to stop this cycle of hate and violence.
This kid is lucky, he got them arrested and went on the view . . . other kids just respond by bringing a gun and shooting their terrorizers.
Peace is the only answer worth working for.
I'm sure I'll get blasted . . . but at least make it intelligent. Don't be some priveleged, nothing-ever-but-middle-to-upper-class that acts like he knows this situation.

Please don't ruin a great story by coming in with this crap. If anything, the Catholic nuns and priests at your school were the ones doing the bullying (and molesting). In fact, being a Jersey kid so close to Philly, I'd be surprised if a few of those priests didn't get at YOU.
Let's be clear: No Catholic institution or clergy member deserves credit for ANYTHING positive.
Other than your stupid-a$$ comment, the only thing that surprises me is that freaking Elizabeth Hasselbeck didn't accuse Keith Olberman and Rachel Maddow of inciting the beat down.
