Did he even finish?
Still running, might be done by noon tomorrow.
If he doesn't finish under 7:30, I'm going to Quizno's instead of Subway for dinner.
If he didn't beat Robin Quivers' 6:09 I'm never going into Subway again.
Ed Norton led the "celebrities"(whatever the hell that means) with a 3:48.
That's it, I'm going to Quiznos.
5:16
You know, I've never been one to pile on with the criticism of slow marathoners, but these celebs...I mean ... they talk so much about how they're training for the marathon, and then look at the times they turn in. Do you think they ever felt "the burn" even ONCE in training? I doubt it.
Jared is slow. The entire thing about him was a big publicity stunt for Subway. They made millions. They were the real winner.

Celebrity: "A widely known person." Wouldn't that make Gebremariam the first celebrity?
Jared ran 5:13:28
Edison Pena ran 5:40:51 but went out much faster (2:07) and had to walk probably the last 6 miles and go to a medical tent because of his knees. His second half was 3:33.
It would have been pretty funny if someone captured Jared going by Pena.
Pena apologized after and said he would have gone faster if it wasn't for his knees. He seems pretty serious about running and was a big surprise this weekend. He gets a pass for anything in my book since he got out of the mine 3 weeks ago.

No. If you lined up 100 random Americans, not one of them would know who Gebremariam is. Hell, if you lined up 100 actual runners, I would bet 98 of them would not know who Haile Gebrselassie is.
Lots of people know who Haile is, plenty of non-runners in fact.
Did Robin Quivers beat Jared?

No, higher numbers are slower times.
Ed Norton beat Jared from Subway who beat the Chilean miner, who beat Robin Quivers.
Haile's DNF, technically speaking, is behind all finishers, including Jared. There's the new Subway ad campaign.
And I think it's safe, for the sake of media attention to the marathon, to define a "celebrity" as somebody who is widely known for something other than being an elite marathon runner.
Gebre Gebremariam is such a cool name that it is a damn shame that it is not likely to become well-known in the states.
Half of New York will have heard of him by the end of the weekend. That's pretty much the entire country as far as I'm concerned. :)

less than 1% of NY will ever hear his name
I don't think this is the last we'll see of Edison Pena. He has a good personality and seems very comfortable in front of a TV camera. This guy won't have to work doing manual labor again.
No, more than 1% will see, hear or read the name Geb^2. Maybe 30% or more. The name is on page one of the sports section (http://www.nytimes.com/pages/sports/index.html).
The majority of New Yorkers won't remember his name after turning the page (real paper or internet version). The name will only mean something to less than 1% of New Yorkers a few days from now.
