I rarely check the local paper, but did today and found this:
I think Bozeman high school has a pretty good cross team, don't know if this guy was involved with that.

He was track and football coach only, and was a good multi-sport guy for the Bobcats. It's shame he couldn't respect the line in the sand. AOC is 16 in MT. He had less than a year before she was legal.
This is wrong no matter what the AOC is. Hope they this molester in jail.
I didn't know Brett Favre coached track.

Do you mean lock him up forever for making one mistake? Or just long enough so that he can learn how to be a REAL criminal before being released back into society?

No, they shouldn't lock him up, they should publicly execute him in front of the school.

Under the Montana age of consent laws, a different standard applies when the relations involve an adult who is in a position of power over a young person, such as a teacher, coach, employer or a member of the clergy. In general, it is wiser to assume that in situations involving an imbalance of power, the legal age of consent is 18 or even 21 years.

I understand that it's different for coaches and teachers, but the reference you cited says "assume". I'm not condoning what he did or saying 16 is OK, but rather trying to point out that in less than one year his actions could be considered legal. It seems absurd. Cases like this happen far too often in MT, and they are often dismissed if the girl is over 16.
damn white people are pedophiles, this happens too much
There are no two ways around this -- the guy was a moron for sending texts like that.

From that link "The age of consent in Montana for women is 16 for heterosexual acts, and 18 for homosexual acts. For men, the age of consent is 18, for both heterosexual and homosexual acts."
I can't believe it's legal to have different ages of consent.
So the male legislators wrote it into the law it's ok for one of them to have sex with a woman who is 16, but if she decides to go bat for the other team no way?

The law has probably just never been challenged.

I spent several years working with sex offenders. Two things are certain:
1. Once a child molester, always a child molester. A predator is a predator. They do not "reform." They're attracted to children.
2. The average child molester has over 100 victims in his molesting career (usually by their mid-50's). Child molesters only admit to the ones for which they have been caught.
Really, sex offenders should never get out of jail. Ever. They ruin so many lives, and usually have little or no remorse for what they've done. At least if they're in jail, they're restrained from the general public and can do no more harm on innocent, unsuspecting victims. Once they're out, they will go right back to perpetrating. I don't care what awful-bad things they learn about in prison. It won't matter how great of criminals they are if we never let them out.
I've seen the therapies, and ever worked with some cutting-edge hotshot (at least they thought they were) therapists and I don't think someone can be "changed" from being attracted to children anymore than a gay man can be changed from digging other guys, or a heterosexual man who digs hot girls can be "reformed" to not be attracted to hot girls. It can't be done.
Lock up the sex offenders for the one offense for which they've been charged (and for the 35 children for which they will never be charged), and don't let them out.
Honestly have you seen the way 15 year old girls look now? Not a huge difference between that and 18 (which would be fine legally). These ones with men and teenage girls are not that bad. Yes, the guy needs some punishment but he is not a predator or anything. For it to go along so long means the girl was doing some of it too.
See, it's in their genes. They can't help it that they like children. It should be legalized.
Know who else uses this excuse?
It's an abuse of power since he is a teacher/coach and he should definitely be fired from his position, but I don't think that what he did is a truly malicious criminal act. Some 15 year old girls look like fully grown women and are outright beautiful. It's no wonder that guys get in trouble for this.

1. A 15 year old girl is an adolescent, not a child, and there is big difference between consentual activity and molestation. Sexting isn't rape regardless of the girl's age.
2. You probably have no idea how many victims the average child molester molests. I can think of no way to compile such statistics with any degree of accuracy. That number is probably either drawn out of thin air, or worse, the result of the "therapists" having coerced convicted child molesters to confess to as many acts as possible with the understanding that their life depended on their cooperation.
I'm not saying there aren't some real monsters out there, but you're failing to observe some very basic intellectual ground rules. I have found this to be typical of almost all mental health professionals.
I am in no way defending this guy, because I think what he did was wrong, He should have waited until she was no longer on his team.
I do want to make a comment on how easy it is to be attracted to younger ladies though.
I'm 24 years old and in grad school, I still occasionally party with under grads, especially if its an xc thing and other alum are around. I go to a lot of the meets to either watch or race and know the upperclassmen well because they were on the team when I was and am at least acquainted with the rest of them. At a party after regionals last year, I danced with and talked to a very attractive girl who I assumed was a friend of someone on the team. Nothing really came of it until a few weeks later when I saw her again at a party. We chatted a little and she came with me and some alums to a bar. After dancing/making out/talking for a bit I found out that she had just celebrated her 17th birthday.
This completely blew my mind. I thought this girl was at least a junior, and then when she said she wanted to go to a bar with us I assumed she was 21. Her appearance and ID were enough to fool the bouncer, and none of my friends thought anything of it, so I don't really feel bad that I misjudged her age, but when I think about how close I was to making a huge mistake it makes me sick. The first time that I saw her she was 16. If she looked old enough to fool a bouncer, how am I supposed to know any different? Even if I asked her for an ID she had a fake one. I've been paranoid about this ever since.
Again, not defending anyone who knowingly has any kind of sex with someone who is underage, but man I never realized how easy it could be to make a mistake.
Dude. You belong in prison. LOL
I've had a very similar experience to yours. I think a lot of dudes have whether they know it or not.
As weird as it sounds I almost feel sorry for the dudes that are attracted to little girls. I would be totally screwed if it was illegal to shack up with 25 year old hot chicks. I would be in and out of jail for the rest of my life. People would think I was a sicko. All because who I was naturally attracted to was off limits. It would totally suck. Obviously the guys going after 11 year olds need to be locked up and are horrible for society but am I wrong to feel a little sorry for them? Am I missing something here?
"No Way" I know what you mean...I made thesame mistake when I attended a Juco. I was 20 and saw this girl everyday in the hall walking after one of my classes. She was 5'10" and very fit so I figured she was one of the athletes. Turns out she was a sister to one of the girls in my class I talked to alot.
We hit it off and ended up together on spring forward (time) night when she went downtown if you know what I mean. Of course I let her and then she wanted to have sex but it was 4am and I had a noon run the next day and I wanted sleep so I told her I owe her one. When I drove her home her mother was sitting on her porch and walked to my car and asked if I knew how old she was...it was then I knew I made a mistake. 16! She walked from the HS to the JC everyday to get a ride home from her sister! Her mom said leave and don't ever talk to her and we will forget this ever happened...I said thanks and left and have never seen her since.
