hang it up, dude, hang it up

Right...cause a mediocre performance in his first race in over 2 years automatically 100% proves that he will never run fast again. In my opinion there is literally NO WAY he was going to run fast today regardless of how good of shape he is in. He has the monkey off his back. Now he can get back to concentrating on racing FAST, not just racing.
ouch. just ouch. lets let saladbar work his magic. he hasn't raced in awhile. sheesh, did he ever look exceedingly flat...

You can't make any such judgments, without knowing what and how much he's been doing in training. How he progesses from here will tell a lot more.
But a bunch more BS from the Oregon crowd (3:37 and such) just got exposed.
I was expecting something a little faster, but you can't perdict what your first race back is going to be like. I suspect he will have some big drops in his times over the next couple races.
I have absolutely no idea what that last post is supposed to mean. He ran freaking 346, so yes, I can make such "judgements" without knowing what and how much he's been doing. I'm not saying he will run that fast again, but I am saying that no matter how good a runner is, he will not come anywhere near a PR after taking a lonnngggg break like Webb did. I don't care if he's in 1:43 shape, no one will run fast in their first race in two years, especially in those conditions.
I don't think his performance today is in any way indicative of what he is capable of with 6-12 months of solid training.
I will, however, say that it is a far cry from the 1:43 he ran just 3 years ago. Clearly he is not ready to race and it must have shown in practice. I'm not sure what the reasoning is behind taking an American Record Holder over to England to run 1:52 in the 800. Shouldn't we be a bit more cautious during a non-championship year with someone who has been hurt for over 2 years? Wouldn't it be more productive to focus getting his training back up to a higher level and improving mechanical weaknesses?
Or is it more important for Galen to have a workout buddy?
Based on the way GrayMatter talks and spells, I wouldn't be surprised if he was a 25 year old college reject who lived through Webb in his college years.

How do you figure? This isn't a bad start for someone who's goal is to run 3:37 who hasn't run in two years. A 1:50 would have been a good start, he's not that far off that, especially considering the track was rain drenched and raining during his race. This is what i'd consider a good start for him.

So you claim you ran in the 90s but are not Kaire...So you are either Jennings or Powell????

Oh and Guess what Jennings HS 800 pr was 1:52.18....
Guess that means you are claiming to be Andy Powell? HMMMMM we will see....
I know you're trolling, but for the record, it doesn't matter what time he ran in this race. Even if he ran 2:00, this race had its purpose, which in case you don't know was NOT to gain your stamp of approval. Do the sport a favor and do let the door hit you on your way out.
read what I wrote ... did I say I ran that in high school??? NO, post-collegiate ... which is crap, but doesn't mean I can't voice my opinion like everyone else on here. All I said was Webb was dismal and should hang it up. You can disagree, but no, you had to start flaming. So what did YOU run that gives you the right to flame me when I say something you disagree with?

Gary Matter,
Hate to burst your bubble, but where did gphr country say he ran 1:49 and 4:02 in high school? It seems to me you made the high school assumption and worked from there. Anyhow, enjoy your little frolic. It seems to me there's a bigger clue to his identity in the screen name, dude.
He should hang it up after one race back and a 2 year lay off? Not even just keep it up and see where his fitness goes, just straight up quit?
You guys are insane. This isn't a great time but it shows he can still run, and if you watch the video he looked flat, not flat out. This was a rust buster and nothing more. What if he had run 1:48 but torn something and missed yet another season? All you idiots would be coming on here talking about how he should've taken it easy blah blah blah we're all brilliant coaches.
I don't think anyone races to gain the "stamp of approval" from letsrun posters now, do they? But that doesn't mean you and I and anyone else can't express our positive or negative opinions here, right? We do it all the time, whether it's Rupp, Webb, or anyone else. So express your own opinion about the race or STFU.

"No, your a dumb ass sorry, your either a dumb ass or your first post on this thread you are trolling. Either way your an ass. Also, BS big time on those PRs, lol, maybe if you are talking about a 600 and a 1500...your pathetic, take your medicine like a good little teenager and grow up."
-man, i'm sorry in advance for saying this, but i just couldn't let it slide. if you are going to attack someone about being dumb, establish a point, etc., you MUST develop better flowing thoughts on paper. your lack of sentence structure and improper utilization of a word such as "your" is horrible. i understand you are riled up, but come on. you're TWENTY FIVE. stop participating in this kind of thing. let it go.

lol, yeah, go ahead and start the back tracking because guess what...your times don't coincide with Andy Powell either, so yeah, your full of crap, you have to lie about your PRs, and you are not even smart enough to lie about your PRs so others can't figure out your lying...so...were back to dumb ass high schooler.
Sure you can post your opinion but it was a dumb ass opinion (like an ignorant HS runner would have) and all I was doing was pointing that out. If you really had ran a 402 and 149 as you so stupidly claimed you would never ever have posted what you did, you just would not have. People that run at that level do not think what you posted...sorry bud.
Funny how when someone first said you must have been Karie instead of then saying you were not talking about high school, you said, no a little later than that...hmmm...but then once we rule it down to two guys, both of whom are pretty well known and easy to find stats on you have to do some big time back tracking and suddenly change your tune to defensive....
So either give us some actual links to results proving those PRs, or man up and admit, you have not run those times (or even graduated HS) and show a little bit of spine, chose your route but these are the only two ways you can leave here with any bit of self dignity...
