I just noticed that Dan Huling turns 27 on Friday.
Can he get the 8:08.82 AR of Dan Lincoln? That would be the ultimate birthday gift to himself.
Predictions everyone?

Interesting how you guys said that the steeple in America was a weak event last year before USA's and now you think the AR is going down.
Why is that interesting? The steeple is a weak event AND Huling has a chance to take down the AR. Both statements are true.
His progression thus far:
2010 8:13.29
2009 8:14.69
2008 8:20.84
2006 8:27.41
~6 second improvemnt per year he's competed in the steeple since '06. Going off that rate or progression, I will predict 8:08. He is a late season runner though, so maybe the AR in September.
USA mens steeple is ranked 3rd as a country behind Kenya and France according to All-athetics.com
I was more saying that the steeple was not weak.
the faster you get, the harder improvement is to come by.
Here is the preview in question:

You may not like to hear it, but in fact it is true. If you're a NCAA All-American 1500/5000 guy in 2012, which event are you going to choose to try to make it to London?
The 1500 that has Lomong, Manzano, Wheating, Torrence, Webb, Ulrey, maybe a healthy German Fernandez by then? The 5000 which has Lagat, Teg, Jager, Solinksy, maybe Rupp, maybe Chris Derrick by then?
Or the steeple, which has Huling, who is world-class, and then a major drop-off. Maybe it is worth your time to work on the steeple for a few months, that will be your best bet to make the team.
Where has Nelson, McAdams, Olinger, Aguayo, Alcorn died off too? All have run around 8:20, but they're all MIA now.
Unrelated note, but as unbelievable as an AR by Huling, how does Slattery run 9:18 and continue to get into the fstest races in Europe year in and year out? Can Ben Bruce get a chance instead?
Why did Huling leave training with Gary at Ohio State?
I agree with steeple following around. Slattery runs 8:33 tonight in Paris. Meanwhile Bruce ran some meet in the middle of nowhere Sweden and backs his 8:22 a week ago with an 8:26 in a race that apparently closed in 65 with an outside barrier. At this point I feel like Ben Bruce should start the David Torrence campaign of where is my contract. He has beat Nelson (Nike), Olinger(Reebok, Aguayo(Nike), and Alcorn(Nike) (all on contract) across the board the last two years. Besides that he is just quitly chipping away at his pr.

I'm pretty sure Nike has a standing policy that they do not sign runners with two first names.
good point, but the mullet he had at USA's had to count for something

Yes, they implemented that right after the Regina Jacobs disaster.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
