Last year we had three under 4 - Pierce, Barringer, Wurth-Thomas; and one just over - Rowbury.
This is the oldest US record on the books.
And please don't start in about drugs. PLEASE!

Didn't Suzy Favor Hamilton tie that time?
Suzy ran 3:57.40 in 2000.
And, it's silly to bring up drugs with the admonition not to bring up drugs. Drugs are part of the legacy...
For someone to run faster I think would take 1:58 or faster 800 speed. Slaney ran 1:56.90, Hamilton 1:58.10. I think Pierce is the only sub-1:59 800 runner in the group but I don't think she's strong enough. People who are strong enough like Barringer and Rowbury aren't fast enough over 800.
nope.
These girls should all pitch in and hire phoebe wright to pace them through. She would be a great rabbit for an American Record.

Not this year or anytime in the near future. You can count on this.

Yeah, I wonder how many fast 1000 meters guys are going to be jumping into this summer. Please.

and a T/E ratio over 12:1
There is no way in hell these ladies run that fast. 3:57.4 is a longggggg ways from 3:59. There is no one in the US that is in that league.
never say never!!!

I also heard Solinsky is too big to run a good 10K and Ritz doesn't have enough speed to run under 13 minutes...

And that was very silly indeed.
Favor-Hamilton's progression shows she went from 4:03.50 to 3:58 and then 3:57. It would be a big jump for any of the current crop of runners but it can happen, esp. for those who have been consistently near 4:00 like Rowbury.
Yea, and a couple of years ago you would have been saying that they were not in the sub-4 league either. Another spur is that there are not too many sub-4, especially 3:56 gals around so that it means that they can be making a splash on the world stage. Look where they finished in the world rankings last year.
Low 3:57 is that bit too much.
My bet is Jenny B. if she gets into a couple in Europe this summer or perhaps at PRE. Problem is she has a goal of doing 2 of each (800-1500-steeple-5K) this summer, and I'm assuming that counts her recent 1500 in NY.
That kind of ruins the chances at really stretching herself out at 1500.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get a couple gals under 3:59 this year, just a matter of how far.
Jenny B is gonna get it
As stated earlier, huge difference between low 3:57 and 3:59. That's a huge drop in a race that lasts less than 4 minutes.
