Running is my primary sport. Sometimes I lift weights in addition to running, and sometimes I don't.
When I do lift weights, overall I feel more fit, and I think I also look better (although that's not my primary concern).
I am wondering how weight lifting helps or hurts one's ability to recover from running workouts. I have heard two arguments:
-When your body spends it's resources recovering from weight lifting, this is resources which are not spent on recovering from running, and thus weight lifting hinders one's ability to recover from a running workout.
-Weight lifting boosts hormone levels in the body (like testoterone), and this boost actually allows one to then recover from the running workouts faster.
I have done some experimenting on myself in this regard, and I have to say, the results have been inconclusive. The jury is still out.
So, what do you think? Maybe both could somehow be right? Perhaps moderate amounts of lifting could help, but extreme amounts hurt?
