It seems like I've seen numerous reference to new runners having 7-years to reach their potential, or it takes 7-years to peak in aerobic fitness.
Most recently in the "Can I qualify for Boston Thread":
You will keep improving for at least 6-8 years after you started running, so at least 4-6 more years of getting faster if you train consistently and keep pushing your limits.
