Guys like that are a dime-a-dozen.
so were no-name runners like Bill Rodgers and Frank Shorter until they became famous...remember this thread and watch what happens we'll give it 2 years and EVERYONE will know his name
Did you go to a state school? Your knowledge of proper punctuation is disgusting.

If you look at track PRs so is someone like Brian Sell. He isn't a dime a dozen marathoner (in the US at least)
who knew Brett Gotcher before last weekend? Louie is 5'7" 130 with decent 5K-10K speed a combo that will translate well to being a great marathon runner

No he's not. Do you seriously not know who Louie Luchini is? That's like saying you don't know who Gabe Jennings is. And never heard of Brett Gotcher before last weekend? Seriously, where have you guys been the past 10 years?
Yeah I knew Brett. He almost won Mt. Sac 10km a few years ago with a great kick.
"Do you seriously not know who Louie Luchini is? That's like saying you don't know who Gabe Jennings is."
I'm not a runner. I promise you that I have never heard of Louie until today. I've heard of Gabe, but only in the last few days on this website.
Jabe.

Then why did you declare definitively that he's a dime-a-dozen if you had never heard of him and don't know a thing about him?
Yeah, I have to wonder if people really follow collegiate racing here at all if they didn't know who Luchini or Gotcher were. While they may not be Ritz or Halls, they are/were way above the level of a Sell or Rodgers in college. Heck, IIRC correctly, I doubt many(any) people have finished in the top 20 at NCAA XC more times than Louie has.
Frank Shorter wasn't a big name beforehand? I'm a young guy and don't know my history that well. I know him winning the Olympic Marathon in 1972 was a surprise, but he wasn't really an unknown, was he? After the names Prefontaine and Ryun, were there any other names that were that much ahead of him?
Pwnd.
Seems like wishful thinking, especially when comparing Luchini's training group with Sell's. At the very least he should train with the Moultons. I wish Louie luck, but wouldn't be that quick to gloss him based on results from the past few years. Bauhs probably stands a much better chance of being "the next great US marathoner!"

If he didn't get those injuries, I bet he would've made a great marathoner. It just depends on if he can get his old form back, or even build off it.
Gabe Jennings is pro... Luie Luchini is....?

Haven't you seen the commericals? 90% collegiate athletes go pro in something other than sports.
I was confused by this part of the article:
[Exactly what marathon that turns out to be hasn’t been determined.
“I haven’t really decided,” he said. “I don’t really know the dates on [area races].”]
He wants to do a late November/December marathon but doesn't know what race or date he's focusing on? Putting it off until late, isn't he?
Agree, but it's still a "what if" and there is a lot of work to done between now and then. I'll be watching and hoping for the best.

here is another article where
Louie mentions Houston or Calif International as possible places for his marathon debut.
here is some video on Flotrack
Nice that Bekele wanted Luchini to be an offical pace setter for him at the Pre Classic where he ran 4th fastest 10K ever

think luchini still holds the Stanford all time 5K record?
