Democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried.

Every time there's a political thread, someone makes the "point" that a given policy is justifiable on the grounds that the majority has voted it into legitimacy. In essence, they're saying that the truth or falsehood of an idea is established by the number of people who vote in favor of it. Just how did such a perverse, irrational notion gain such popularity? Whose retarded idea was this? Do you idiots not realize that history is replete with examples of times when the prevailing ideologies of the day have been dead wrong, and that modern times are no exception? If you ever make this argument, you suffer from an intellectual deficit and are not fit to have children.
Legitimacy/justifiability of a policy is one concept.
Truth/falsehood of an idea is an entirely different concept.
Individuals who are not intelligent enough to understand the difference should certainly not be having children.

And now that you've made your argument against majority rule, what system do you believe would be a better alternative?
How about a system in which the majority votes in officials that make the decisions for them? Has that been considered?

You must be the minority of your group. I recommend you move to a democratic nation where your ideas are the majority. It will make your life a lot easier. The USA isnt the only developed nation in the world. I don't like it much here, I'd move if I could. Otherwise, I deal with the majority rule and bide my time until I can move elsewhere.
You can move any time you want. Having the same standard of living might be a challenge.
The US is not and NEVER has been a democracy. Do you really want true majority rule? If so, slavery might well still be in existence in the US.

A government is legit only if it has the consent of the governed.
Just because the governed want to be governed by a lie doesn't make the government illegitimate.
Think about-- do you really believe it self-evident that all men are created equal?
The U.S. is a Constitutional Republic.
All of the founding documents state the U.S. has been formed as a Constitutional Republic. The rights of any individual are as important as the rights of anyone else.
The democracy concept was formed by the power elite to control the masses through brainwashing and false advertising, and to try and take away individual rights. A common theme is to accuse another group of doing what they are currently doing, i.e. accuse others of brainwashing, accuse others of terrorism.
One example of where the majority would be correct. Is that a majority of people you meet think you're an @sshole.
'Right' is whatever the majority says it is, pure and simple.

Whereas the better test of its justifiability would be... what? Whether or not you agreed with it?

people who respond like this are pretty simple-minded. there are plenty of examples showing the majority favor terrible things that are later plainly believed to be wrong.
but if your point is there is not clearly better option that can be sustained over a long period of time, i tend to a agree right now. as long as there is still some governmental/judicial rule which can overrule the stupid masses in important issues (e.g., slavery)
