I received notice for jury duty later this month. My only experience so far was sitting in the "pool" for two days and being sent home. Anybody have a good story about their jury duty experiences?

Got called up for duty, murder was the case. It seemed this young tart had killed the editor of a tabloid who had dragged her name through the mud, a real open and shut case. Her lawyer comes in, a real simple man who always wore a gray suit, and starts poking around. Wouldn't you know it, he had that charge beat quicker than you could say "whodunit". Turns out photographer at the paper murder the editor, what a twist, nearly leapt out of my trousers when he confessed.
most likely the one on trial is black. just look at statistics. show up to court dressed like this http://farm1.static.flickr.com/132/321347265_73c294deae.jpg and you are home free. no jury duty for you.
I did jury duty in June. I did it because A) I was done teaching for the year and B) I got paid about $65 a day.
It was a rather open and shut case in terms of the law. It was quite scary to see how stupid and easily manipulated the average American is.
Not a really a good story:
The judge asked each of us if we had common sense. I said that I thought common sense was what we called our socially and historically determined perspective without recognizing it. After a couple hours of questioning and dismissing other jurors with cause, the judge asked the defense if they wanted to dismiss anyone without cause, and all 3 lawyers for the defendants blurted out my juror number. Not really sure why my answer would have been such a red flag to them.
The funny thing is that I was actually a little bummed about being dismissed. Though it was nice to not have to continue making up missed work at night, I sort-of wanted to be on a jury once before starting law school.
It's because you're too smart 800 dude. Those lawyers knew they couldn't pull the wool over your eyes, so you were out of there.
If you want to get off doing it dress up either extremely smartly or extremely poorly. 1 side will want you kicked off one way or the other. Personally when I got called up it was summer and hot, so strolled in wearing board shorts + singlet and was immediately sent packing by the public prosecution side of the court.
Ignore all the slackers and do you duty. You won't regret it. Stop and think who you would want on your jury. Certainly not the turkeys who have posted above. Act accordingly.

If it were me on trial I'd actually want jurors who wanted to be there (or at least weren't detesting every minute of it) rather than uninterested persons who couldn't give a fvck.
People who have no interest in being on a jury have every right to do what they want to try and avoid it.

Maybe they dismissed you because you were incapable of answering yes or no to a simple yes-or-no question.
I was brought in for a lawsuit on an injury case. The lawyers explained that the plaintiff had filed claims 3 times before within 4 years. I told them " c'mon, are you serious? This is what's wrong with this country! It's all you lawyers. You guys look for reasons to file lawsuits, rather than let the client contact you. This is a joke!"
I was dismissed.
Worked like a charm.

Does your wife mind that you're impotent?
