Did anyone take Teg's 400 meter splits for today's race? I want to match them up side by side with Ritz's and compare. Might be an interesting exercise and a good way to kill some time on this fabulous friday.

I would also like to see those splits.
Why so you can crunch some numbers to prove your boyfriend Matt is actually faster than Dathan? Actually sounds like a good idea. Anyone?
Here are the K splits for the leaders. Teg was usually within 2-3 seconds of leaders.
1000m 90 Esho, Benson (KEN) 2:34.72
2000m 90 Esho, Benson (KEN) 5:12.49
3000m 92 Bekele, Kenenisa (ETH) 7:45.51
4000m 92 Bekele, Kenenisa (ETH) 10:24.22
So,
2:34.72
2:37.77
2:33.02
2:38.71
2:34.34
Any splits I give would be complete guestimations. But I do know Bekele was 5:12 at 2k(13flat pace) and 7:45at 3k(meaning he ran 5 10 for the last 2k). Teg was probably 3 seconds off the him at 2k and as many as 4 or 5 at 3k.(maybe 7:49) again these are all guesses and he appearing to be 2 flat for the final 800.
He was pretty much tucked in at the end of the lead pack and steady the whole way. He did not have an overwhelming finishing kick that would suggest he could go significantly faster. That being said in was cool out and the pace setters wer a little off. But I do think he would have taken Ritz in Zurich had he been there.
Ritz's last 1000 was 2:31.8, by way of comparison

Matt's was probably very similar to Ritz's last k then. The leaders ran 2:34 the last k, and Matt was probably 2 -3 seconds back
but he also finished 3 seconds back which means he also would have run 2:34. But it doesn't take away from his performance. An important fact is that Ritz's first 2k was like 509-5:10 while Teg was like 5:14. Ritz only was able to find that 2:31 because of the lazy middle 1k which was probably like 2:38 for him, whereas Teg was being pulled along hard by Bekele who was trying to make the pace honest after a lackluster early pacing job.
wait portlandia cant do math. 10 24 to 1255 is 231 not
2:34 so Teg most likely did run around 2;31 for his last k
Teg was not 3 sec back at 4k. he was like 1 sec back. he was right on the tail of that lead pack.
If my memory serves me right, Teg needed a 2:30 last 1k to run 12:55!!!
well if bekele went through 4k in 10:24, i think teg came through in 10:26-27, so i would say he ran his last k in 2:31-32. that's an honest pace. ritzenhein ran his last 800 in 2:00, so that's going at almost exactly the same pace, but i think ritz' last 400 looked about 1 second faster than teg's although it's hard to compare since teg was moving backwards in his race and ritzenhein had more of the appearance of gaining ground even though soi passed him at the end.
