Yes; I'm afraid that applies to me as well. I was lucky enough based on my talent (3:50 1500m) to score a point in our conference meet in mid May, but that was the end of the meets for me.
I think that the lack of regular "semi-pro" meets durring July and August hurts the second tier of U.S. track racers. I really don't think the multitude of local 5Ks does anything for the mid distance runners. On the other hand, the second tier mid distance runners may need a break after the NCAA indoor and outdoor seasons. But once they are out of college, what real summer racing do they have? There used to be a New England high performance series that I sent an 800 runner to so that she could make a break through to the next level. She was based in Milwaukee, and there was nothing in the Midwest where the competition would be as good.

In the DC area they have the Potomac Valley Track Club Championships in late August/ early September.
That's meaningful to some.
Only the best of the best are seriously competing after early June. (in track anyway, unless you are talking about the local summer meets programs put on by the Parks and Recs Depts).
Depending on your job and how you like to spend your money and summer, there are a lot of "B" races in Europe in July and August where guys are running 3:43-50 in the 1500, 8:20-45 in the steeple, 13:45-14:25 in the 5k.
Meaningful? To whom? We impose meaning on events. Educate yourself.
