I took over an AP Literature class, and we're beginning Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four. A fellow teacher gave me reams of columns, editorials, and articles discussing (lambasting) the Bush administration's use and misuse of the legislation. Fair enough. Since we're approaching a year after the 2008 election, I'd like to update.
Does the current administration use it? Has it been expanded, scaled back, forgotten? Are there provisions that have been repealed, etc etc. Are there other Big Brother-esque policies being used by the Obama team like in the previous eight years?
To the extent that it can be avoided, I'm not looking for Obama bashing or Bush bashing ( haha, he said bush bashing). Just a clear-eyed look at the current state of surveillance.
