It feels like fall here - and I'm *not* complaining. 48 miles for the week, in 6 runs, including 8 at marathon goal pace on Thursday night and a sadistically hilly 16 this morning. On this morning's run, I paced a guy who's being coached by a friend of mine (a personal trainer), aiming for a fall marathon, his first. This was his longest run ever.
It worked out well for both of us. We went a little too fast the first couple of miles (though probably not as fast as he would have if he'd been by himself - I was definitely holding him back), then settled into a nice rhythm and held it the rest of the way. In the end we averaged about 9 minute pace.
A little bit of trivia about Desiree Davila's run last week. I knew her race in Berlin put her 9th on the list of fastest times by American women; what I didn't know was that the only other American woman to run a faster time at a comparably young age (she's just 26) was Joan Benoit Samuelson. All the more reason to be excited about her future.
Hoping there are no surgeries or injuries this week, just good running (or cycling) and rapid healing.
