Hello all,
I know these topics sometimes get out of hand predicting workouts for races, but I was just thinking recently, "what could I have run before?" I've never been much of a long distance guy (>5k in terms of racing), but I've done my long runs whenever I trained.
The third time I went 16 miles for a long run ever, I ran at 6:35 - 6:40 pace solo first thing in the morning just easing into it and not much effort (6:14 last mile pace without trying to hammer the pace/pick it up). Relatively flat terrain on grass mostly, some little rolling hills. Weekly mileage at 80.
Fast forward 9 months, didn't run for 5 of those months and I ran 14 - 15 miles and ran at 6:50 pace, a lot of hills (up in the mountains), but on roads. Didn't push the pace, just took it pretty easy, felt good as well. Weekly mileage at 70.
Now here's what I was trying to answer to myself, "What would I have been able to run for the half marathon during either of these times?" The only reference of race fitness I had was about 4:10 - 4:15 shape for the mile one month before the first run described.
Could anybody give me an idea of what I should've expected for a half-marathon during either of these times?
