I was thinking of buying a GPS watch (Garmin) and I've also been looking at the Timex watches with Speed and Distance (S+D) And I was just wondering if anyone has used the Timex ones and if they are GPS too or just pedometers. Thanks for the help anything else mentioned concerning these types of watches in general is appreciated as well.

(Common to them all is the one idiot who feels it is his mission to crusade against people using them, "cause we didn't need them thar fancy gizmos in my day!")

I had an old Timex Ironman GPS watch from 2003. It worked well sometimes, but some of the time, especially under cloud cover, the distance tracking messed up. It also took a few minutes to pick up the GPS signal when I started.
I now have a Garmin Forerunner 405. It gets the signal right away most of the time and never messes up with the distance.
However I have not tried a newer Timex so it is possible their current watch would work well.
