Once he get a sub 13, yes. And he will, after worlds.
yup, I think he'll break 13 mins at the memorial van damme meet.
He had a very impressive finish at the end of the US champs. This guy finished 4th in Osaka, beating Tariku Bekele. I think on a good day he can get a medal.
In a race with a finishing time of 13:10 where the 3rd and 2nd to last lap is 63-64.. he can factor. But most likely... it will get cranked up to 60 60 and 58.. that will be too much for Matt.
This is his best chance yet!
been a big fan of tegenkamp since world cross juniors in 01.. he is a talented..guy
I think it is between him and Cragg and potentially Rupp. Solinsky is good for an outside bet.
Cragg is definitely capable of sub 13 - his 7:32 3k already indicates a sub 13 performance but Teg will be the next American to break 13.
Cragg hasn't been anywhere near top form for years it seems. I don't think the Africans are worried about him.
Teg has the potential to be the Big Mazungo, but I don't think he is there yet. When Mottram was on his game, he ran 12:55, took Geb all the way to the line in London, and won a bronze in an extremely tactical World Championship race. Teg hasn't done anything to rival that yet, although he isn't far behind.

there is no 5k at the van damme meet on september 4th.
they have a 3k. and a 10k.
i say he runs the 10k at that meet.
my bad, how about zurich?

Do you have a link to that? The MVD website shows no official timetable yet (that I can find), but the IAAF website has a draft timetable that has a 5k but no 3k or 10k for men.

I am aware of the meet website. Where does it say that there will be a 3000 or a 10,000? Under "Program", it says that there will be a 3000 or a 5000 for the men. And, like I said, the IAAF website says it will be a 5000 for the men and a 3000 for the women.
Clearly, he is the only one right now who has shown he can take the Big Mzungo title. the kenyans do see him as a threat. Watch the race on flotrack. After the last pacer drops at 3k, it's all racing now during the last 2k. There were 6 or 7 kenyans and Teg riding the back of the train. Eventually it whittles down to 4+Teg with 400 to go. Each time the leaders make any kind of move which gaps other kenyans, Teg moves around to keep with the leaders. They kenyans who get passed can't stand it. They surge hard to get up around him again and close in as if trying to prevent him from keeping with the leaders. Eventually, he has to pass them again for good. He does this several times. On the last lap, he passes the guy in yellow with just under 300 to go. that guy surges hard and slams the door, making Teg lose momentum.
yeah, I would like to have seen Teg go a little harder a little earlier and be on the leader's shoulder with 300 to go rather than deal with the other guys. But the behavior of the kenyans in this race show they do very much take Teg as a threat to their dominance. I, for one, and very ready to see what he can do at worlds.
They are both pretty good 10k runners, it's hard to say really
well, then there will be a 3k and a 5k and no 10k.

It was not too long ago that Cragg beat Teg - Cragg when he is in form can run quick - he is penciled in to run london on friday.
I don't know, it kind of depends on who shows up at The Cup.

Sweet, he beat Teg in his first race of the season after he missed much of the winter with a knee injury.
Mottram went 12:55.xx, I believe. Teg isn't near there right now. I'd be happy if I was wrong here and he busts a near-AR performance, but I just think Mottram's best will always be better than Teg's best.
Ummm ever heard of Jeff Risely?
Atleast he is big!
Rupp will be the next yank under 13 for 5km.
The point was that if you look at their comparative best times and early season form there is nothing to suggest that Teg is any better than Cragg or that Teg is feared any more than Cragg by the Africans.
Teg beat Cragg in a 3km a week later where they both beat Choge (Albeit not a 100% Choge)
Teg has run 13:04, Cragg has run 13:07 but Cragg is faster over the 3km. There really is very little difference between the two guys and I think they are both in very similar shape at the moment.
