I have been having a lot of problems in my training, especially having to cut workouts short because of a high heart rate. Let me start from the beginning. I am currently a senior, last year i ran 16:32 for 5k XC and a 9:54 on the track. (I am a guy) I was feeling good about my summer training, and I was gearing up for a great senior XC season, I peaked around 65 mpw. I hoped for good things from our first invitational the first week of the season, but i ended up in the ER. I collapsed 50 meters from the line, and drug myself to the finish. I was diagnosed with dehydration, which was weird to me because knowing that day was going to be hot, all I did was drink water. I carried a 1 liter Nalgene around with me the entire week, always drinking from it. They said possibly the dehydration was caused by lack of electrolytes. I did what the doc said and took a week off. I returned to practicing, and i eased my way back in. Everything seemed to be going well. I only ran 17:07 for a SB, but I was happy I could run, not crawl across the finish line. I started indoor track and i hoped everything would be fine. I ran a 10:45 2mile time trial the first week of practice, and my coach said i could have at least ran a 10:35 because we opened in an 87, closing in a 68. I felt good about the effort. He based the time from the time trial to get paces for our workouts. I have had issues ever since. My resting heart rate is around 58-60, but during workouts I jump up to 180-190.My mom is a nurse, she says this is called Sinus tachycardia. On Tuesday we did 8x600m at 72 pace. I could only do 2 600s because I felt my pulse was way to high. I cut them down to 400s, and I felt a little better. Also, I felt way to much lactic acid accumulate from what I'm used to.I used to be able to knock off 72 400s like it was nothing. Today, I did a 20 min. tempo at 5:50 pace, and I had to keep stopping b/c my heart felt way to high. I am just mental from happened during XC? I don't want to have a heart attack on the road. Are the paces to hard, and should I use 10:45 instead to determine my workout paces. Please help. Thanks in advance.
