I only wear socks in the winter. When it starts getting warmer the socks are put away. Takes a while to defeat the blisters, though. I've started carrying a little tube of carmex balm and I'll stop my run and dab on a little if I feel a blister forming.
socks keep you from having blisters that mess up your running. Relatively small price to pay for that.
I genuinely don't understand why people go sockless. I love socks, and if I were rich I'd wear a brand new pair on every single run. Going sockless is uncomfortable, it feels hot (no wicking), and it makes your shoes stink.
My socks always balled up on my foot about 15 - 20 miles in a marathon, causing blisters. I went sockless and eliminated the problem. Never wore socks again in a race though I did train in them, especially in winter months. I got blisters (Minor) on my toes socks or sockless, liked running sockless. One less thing to worry about.
I personally assumed you are talking about when wearing spikes, not in road races? Is that correct. I didn't know anyone went sockless in normal shoes. So what's everyone's opinion on going sockless in spikes?
But black socks never look right for athletics.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
