On a serious note, John Bingham, "The Penguin", completely rocked the house and sold out all of his clinics/talks this weekend at Disney World. Absolutely hilarious. We may rag a ton on this guy and his penguin background, but what a funny, motivational guy. Just wanted to share.
At the Burlington VT marathon 3 years ago I was in the post-race refreshment line behind a Penguin fan who was very protective and defensive of him when I compared he and Galloway to guys like Shorter, Rodgers, Edelen, DeMar and Clayton.
I was quite surprised at Her vehemence.

he writes articles in Runner's World espousing the values of running, regardless of the pace. He appeals to the masses who don't run to compete but simply to be fit and/or lose weight. He strikes a nerve with some serious runners and many of those on this board, who believe he is an advocate of mediocrity.
I think that's about right.

I don't really understand why LR has such an issue with slower runners enjoying the sport. It doesn't take anything away from us if some people are behind us.
The Penguin is still around? I honesty had no idea. I remember about 15 or so years ago, the mere mention of his name here would cause an s-storm to break out.
In fairness, he is actually a really nice guy. Easy to talk to and quite entertaining.
I had dinner plans to catch up with a college friend who was in town for a marathon expo. My friend asked me if it was okay with me if another guy that he knows joined us for dinner. I didn't know if they were working the same vendor booth or if they knew each other prior. It wasn't until probably 30 minutes into the dinner/conversation that it was mentioned (by my friend) that this is guy who writes "The Penguin" articles for RW. Just a nice guy.

Check out the date of the last three posts: 2007, 2018, 2018. You're right; it has been about 11 years.
