When I had my stress fracture it was on the inside of my right leg just above the bulge of my ankle...
I ran on it for about 1-2 months not knowing what it was... I was trying to get to nationals in the 10k... the day before we left for nationals I had to withdraw because I found out it was a stress fracture and I could barely walk....
The best thing I can tell you is if it is a stress fracture take time off now... don't try to run on it then think you can stop at the end of the season rest and be back to normal... I spent the whole summer afterwards trying to get better and it took me until november afterwards to get up to 7 miles.... bike and swim and cross train.... but i'm not a doctor so if it gets worse see a doctor...
I would say I had an extreme case but I have heard of people getting put in a cast for it.... i was just in a boot....
I would say when I got close to being put in a boot
it was turning purple and you could see a bruise... early on there may not be any discolaration or bruise...
the hardest part was doing warm-ups and cool-downs... once I got warmed-up took a couple advil i was fine until the latter stages... then the advil wouldn't even keep me from limping...
probably the best things you can do to prevent this is not to overtrain.. don't increase you mileage too fast, watch your shoes, and the surfaces you run on...
good luck hopefully its not a stress fracture.. i know i have heard people say they have a stress fracture then a week later they were fine.... just make smart choices... if its worse talk to your athletic trainer if you have one
and/or doctor...
