You might or might not be better than average for a hardcore runner. For the general population, that's very good, even if you're in the prime of your life. And since you're a runner, your heart is probably fit, so you probably don't need to be worrying about it getting too low unless you start having other problems like lightheadedness, fainting, nausea, blacking out/graying out of vision, etc.

it all depends on the person. some athletes have resting heart rates in the low 30s, some in the mid 70s. the last presidential physical revealed GWB to have a resting pulse in the low 40s.
as far as average, the medical community defines "normal" heart rate as 60-100 bpm. anything below 60 is called bradycardia, anything above 100 is called tachycardia. these rates can also be "normal" depending on the situation.
Resting heart rates vary from runner to runner, by a good bit sometimes. So they're not really indicative of performance, but there definitely is a downward corrolation between resting heart rate and increasing fitness. Your own resting heart rate can be an indicator of your own fitness as compared to another point in your life, but it's not really a great gauge anyway.
Just because runner X has an rhr of 39 and runner Z has an rhr of 55 doesn't at all mean that runner X is faster than Z. Quite the opposite could be true.
I run about 50-60miles a week and im 16 I wasn't woried just curious. What woluld say Bekeles' be or someone like that?

hmm, maybe that is the cause of my random lightheadedness?
i used to think it was cuz i get really tired, but sometimes i can stay up all night without getting sick, and others ill sleep normal and still get lightheaded.
last summer i measured my hr at 47 laying down
I run 70 to 80 mpw, I'm 6'3" and 175 lb, and I have never measure below 60. Well actually one time I did hit 52 when the doctor was taking my pulse, but they were in the process of putting my under with anesthesia and I wasn't aware they were taking my heartrate.
I had 36 when fittest. Thought I was pretty cool. Until I heard that Jim Ryun had 72.
What's the feeling on min-max range - is there anything in that?
My resting gets as low as 31, but my max is something like 206-208. I am 31 yo.
Nonsense, get over yourself. Try measuring it again, I've never heard such lies.
If it beats rhythmically you are in good shape; don't worry about the rate - it varies a lot among elite athletes
lowest I ever heard of was this farmer I knew in highschool resting heart rate of 26 doctors were all worried but hes still kickin at 82
A little arrythmia is not necessarily unhealthy.
A lot of cyclists have around 30....but I heard Lance Armstrong had about 40. I don't think resting HR is that important.
I was wrong on LA.....32-34 according to his website
I heard and believe it is true that most olympic endurance athlets have a resting hear rate in the 30s, Lance 32-34 Viren 32, Khalid Khanochi 34, as for me 52 was my lowest, a couple of years ago it was bet. 70s and 80s till I started running more miles that probably increased my hearts efficiency by collateral circulation as it deals with aerobic development.
Mine is 48.
My 5k time 22ish.
Obviously not related to ability.
Rexing's resting heart rate is somewhere between 1 to 1.5 per hour.
brandon moens resting hr is 55 until he looks in the mirror and it jumps to 180.
ouch im fine.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
