I read in "The Miler" by Steve Scott that he ran a 1 mile downhill race in New Zealand in 3:29. He also said that Mike Boit of Kenya ran 3:28. I know this is not really "running", but I wonder if there has been a faster mile run. Please, no bad jokes about someone running down the side of a cliff or a building. |

Mike Boit does have the record, but I thought it was 3:21. Maybe it was from an earlier year? |

Wow, that would be even more amazing. I wonder if this was the fastest mile ever set up. I think serious runners today might not want to run a downhill race with a decent chance at an injury (legs, knees, back). |

As I recall, Scott ran a few of the downhill miles in Australia. In 1981 or 1982 I recall someone besides Boit winning but definitely no fatser than 3:27. I'm guessing that is the fastest ever run unless anyone has run the first mile of Hood To Coast all out as a single mile. I know guys routinely break 4 there on the way to their whole leg. |

Actually, it was New Zealand. I think it was thought up by John Walker after watching the Fifth Avenue Mile. |

El Gerrouj once ran a 3:43 |

Throw enough cash at 'em and they would. I guess it depends on the grade. It really makes a difference in how much pounding the body experiences. I wonder what the ideal downgrade is for running the fastest mile. At what point is it considered falling? What is the steepest slope one could safely sprint down? |

I once jumped out of an airplane that was flying 1 mile over the ground. I pumped my arms and legs in a running motion. I hit the ground breaking every bone in my body in a time of 1:17.92 I am the record holder for the fastest mile ever run. In 7 months I will be fully recovered and will begin my training to accomplish the same feat at 5000 meters. |

Was it Baldwin St.? Famous as the world's steepest street. It is in Dunedin New Zealand. |

this closed the thread, obviously someone may be able to run faster downhill, but then someone can just find a steeper hill to run down to beat it, 3:43 is the wr |

this would be an event fat people could compete well in..."The one mile Cliff fall" |

Actually they would fall slower do to the wind resistance. Mass does not matter in freefall. Galileo proved that about 500 years ago, so get with the times. |

Fastest mile ever run was by a guy called Adam Christian, I believe. He ran a 3:04 in attempts to out run the competition. He lost the race when he was conned into munching on an apple during the last 200 meters. Beaten and pussy whipped by Eve Christian. It was all up hill from there man! Q |

You are completly retarded, "big cock" should be "big ego" why on earth would you free fall 1 mile and you did not run it, you fell so therefore you are retarded, get a life and a brain, and maybe some common sence |

You get the world record for missing the most obvious joking response. But alas, you're too dumb to know it. |

Nope. Assuming similar postures while falling, fat people would fall faster through air than skinny people would, just as a book falls faster through air than a single sheet of paper does. "Wind resistance," as you say. |
