With each passing race, we are starting to see that the future of distance events in track and field lies in the power of a final kick. I am not talking about a 55 second close during a 13:02 5K. I am talking about 50.2 at the end of 12:40 5K. With that said. Who are the best Kickers of all time at any distance? Do Chebii and Bekele rank at the top.
My List would go something like this.(Chebii and Bekele still gotta earn more)
Fermin Cacho-(3:28.95 1500m)--Without a doubt, one of the most devastating kickers of all time. Just ask Morceli who got dusted in 1992, Barcelona.
Noureddine Morceli-( 3:27.37 1500m)-- Another man from the same era as Cacho that had mad wheels. Morceli had an incredible amount of gears, in fact a whole entire gear box that everyone else lacked.
Mohamed Suleiman of Qatar-(3:32.10 1500m)-- Who? What? Yes ladies and gentleman, Suleiman would smoke you bad. He owned Morceli on a couple of occasions.
Fita Bayissa(13:05.40 5000m)--Before Gebrselassie, there was Bayissa, and the man was one of the smoothest 10K guys ever, not to mention quick as hell. In the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Bayissa and Moses Tanui battled aimlessly in one of the heats. In one instance, Tanui, noticing that Bayissa was boxed in, threw in a mad surge and got an 80 meter lead on the pack. As soon as Bayissa broke free, he set out on a mad dash in the middle of a 10K heat and closed the gap on Tanui in seconds. You have to see it! This guy was quick.
Khalid Skah-simply Dangerous
Miruts Yifter-Old version of Haile. The guy would drop the last lap like it was hot!
Rich Kenah-We need atleast one white guy on here. But seriously, Kenah was a great closer in an 800m.
Yuriy Borzakovskiy- This kid is capable of 1:40 or under for the 800m. He just needs to take more risks, but why should he with a kick like that? Good question.
ANYWAY--I am sure that everyone has somebody in mind. Post your opinions starting now!
