If you want to win NCAAs as a team, you'd better run well this weekend. Every single year for the last 15 years, the eventual men's NCAA champion has won on this weekend. The race of the week is the men's race at Wisconsin as it includes the top three teams in the country (Northern Arizona, Syracuse and BYU) and a great individual battle between NAU's Futsum Zienasellassie, Syracuse's Justyn Knight and Stanford's Sean McGorty.

There are lots of things to pay attention to as the calendar has turned to October. #1 New Mexico will run at the Notre Dame Invite on Friday against three other ranked teams while CU opens the season at the Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday. Friday's Washington Invitational (Stanford and Oregon are both in the field) and Saturday's Greater Louisville Classic (Wisconsin, Iona, Michigan, Ole Miss, Iowa St.) highlight the rest of the weekend's action. With no Kate Avery, the championship picture is wide open. Wisconsin junior Sarah Disanza is the top returner from a year ago but she's far from a shoo-in as she'll be pushed by British import Rhona Auckland (New Mexico) and NCAA track champs Dominique Scott (3k), Rhianwedd Price (1500) and Molly Seidel (10k).

The futures of American seniors Eric Jenkins and Emily Sisson look very bright as they both got their first NCAA titles in the 5,000m.

Neither Jenkins (7:44/13:18) nor Sisson (15:12 CR) has won an NCAA individual title, but that is likely to change on Friday night in Fayetteville.
