The half marathon world record holder just missed the course record with her 2:22:38 win. Des Linden led early and ended up the top American in 6th in 2:26:42.

The women's marathon is full of some studs - including some studs the World Marathon Majors don't seen to want to touch - like the third fastest women's marathoner in history - Ruth Chepngetich.

On a day with poor conditions for running fast, there was absolute CARNAGE in the men's race behind Legese. 46 men went out on sub-2:10 pace and only 4 broke it.

The women's field in Tokyo is tougher than the men's field so victory for Aga is by no means guaranteed.

2018 was the best year in the history of the women's marathoning. Coming into the year, only five women in history had ever broken 2:19 but six different women did it 2019.  Plus 11 times a woman broke 2:20 in 2018, the most in history.
