2021 Olympic 800m Champion Athing Mu returned to racing a competitive field with a 4:10.70 2nd place finish in the 3rd heat of the 1500,  former World Champion Jake Wightman got a nice win in the 1500 in 3:35, Olympic silver medallist Kenneth Rooks cruised to an 8:14 win, Oregon's Klaudia Kazimierska won the 1500 (4:03) over Emily Mackay, as Linden Hall (14:43) and Eduardo Herrera (12:58) got dominant 5000m wins with Herrera going sub 13:00 for the first time and taking down Arturo Barrios' Mexican outdoor record of 13:07.

With Noah Lyles v Marcell Jacobs in the 100, Grant Fisher v Josh Hoey v Jake Wightman v Graham Blanks in the 1500, Parker Valby making her pro debut, and Olympic champs Julien Alfred, Rai Benjamin, Masai Russell and Grant Holloway all racing, this meet is loaded.

"I enjoy the 800's a lot more than the fifteens. I can do the 800 and not have the same expectations. ...Coming here to do the 800 is just something I'm actually excited to do. I hope it will be all right.  It's an unknown.  I've never actually done an 800 championship.  I want to show I can be as competitive over eight as fifteen.  I think if I were to do a fifteen here I wouldn't have come.  So, 800 meters is just a real re-fresh.  I'm like, I'm actually looking forward to racing again. ...It's the way it turned out. It's not that I wanted to duck the fifteen, I wanted to try and see if I could compete over 800 because I still want to be considered an 800 meter runner as well, if I can."

Wightman lived every miler's dream by outkicking the Olympic 1500 champ with 200 to go, becoming the first Brit to win the 1500 at Worlds since 1983.

On Tuesday, American Bryce Hoppel will look to earn the first European victory of his career when he takes on a super deep 800 field (8 men under 1:45 this year) in his second outdoor race of the season, while Stewart McSweyn, Matthew Ramsden, & Ryan Gregson square off in a de facto Aussie 1500 champs.
