Assefa successfully defended her title and lowered her own women's-only world record to 2:15:41, prevailing in a tactical battle that saw an unprecedented three women break the 2:16 barrier.

Hellen Obiri pulled away from Sharon Lokedi in the final mile to win the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon in 2:19:51, breaking Margaret Okayo’s 22-year-old course record. Fiona O’Keeffe impressed in her NY debut, while Olympic champion Sifan Hassan's presence impacted the race.

Lokedi turned the tables on Obiri after losing four straight and picked up a cool $200k in the process.  

Mantz said his first Boston appearance in 2023 dented his confidence and affected his racing in 2024, but he is ready to put that behind him on Monday. Plus two-time champ Evans Chebet is feeling healthy and ready to reclaim his title.

Hassan set an Olympic record of 2:22:55 just 37 hours after earning bronze in the 10,000. Hellen Obiri took bronze as Dakotah Lindwurm was top American in 12th (2:26:44).

Obiri got the win by running her final 4.2 plus miles at under 5-minute mile pace. Mile 23 was 4:57, mile 24 was 4:41, mile 25 was 4:54 and she ran her last mile in 4:51 to finally break free of Sharon Lokedi.

Obirit's coach, Dathan Ritzenhein, is confident that the Boston and NYC champ is ready to go. "We feel pretty confident that her fitness is the best it’s been for a marathon."

A record 11 sub-2:20 women are scheduled to race on Patriots Day in Boston on April 15, the most for any marathon in history, surpassing the 10 that started in London last year. And Hellen Obiri (2:21:38 pb) will be the favorite. Emma Bates heads the US entries.

Hellen Obiri used a furious kick to turn the tables on Letesenbet Gidey and win the 2023 TCS New York City Marathon and become the first woman to win New York and Boston in the same year since Ingrid Kristiansen in 1989.

Senbere Teferi outdueled Hellen Obiri to run the fastest road 10,000m on US soil. Emily Sisson was 4th and Keira D'Amato 5th.

Hellen Obiri bided her time and then struck to pull away from a star-studded women's lead pack that included American Emma Bates.

There will be five sub-2:18 women and 16 sub-2:21 women on the start line in Hopkinton -- both all-time records for a women's marathon.

Kiplimo ran each 5k faster than the previous, running his final 5k in 13:52 thanks to a 4:19 12th mile as he won by 38 seconds in his showdown with 5,000 and 10,000 WR holder Joshua Cheptegei.
