Albertson, best known before today for setting treadmill and indoor marathon world bests, had a 2:13 lead at halfway, got caught on Heartbreak Hill but still rallied back for a top 10 showing.

There have only been six races in history in which multiple Americans have broken 2:10 (the record is four guys under 2:10, achieved at the 2012 Olympic Trials). But with seven of the top 12 finishers from the Trials entered on Sunday, we could see as many as half a dozen Americans break the barrier in Arizona.

CJ Albertson has become the king of ridiculous long runs, from his 50,000m world best on the track to his 37-mile run at 5:56 pace on his treadmill. But Albertson, who is targeting a pb at the Marathon Project, is keeping things in perspective: "When I line up December 20, it’s like, who cares?"
