If she gets top talent, it is only because she gives them a larger scholarship. If somebody is offered 75% at Notre Dame or Michigan or Toledo, they don't choose Toledo. If the are offered 50% at Notre Dame or Michigan or 100% at Toledo, then maybe they choose Toledo.

I would imagine that all the top schools would also be the top recruiting schools as well. Ed Eyestone and his coaching crew at BYU must be very good as well.
You’re thinking at the surface, it’s easier to recruit when the school sells itself. Think deeper, the best recruiters are the mid major coaches who can get an athlete who could go to a top school and not talking walk on but get a scholarship offer, but signs with mid major. I believe those in the collegiate coaching world understand this more so than an outsider.
I hear what you are saying but they still have to fight off all the other top tier schools for the same top tier athletes. It's a rare mid major that can pull off getting some of the top tier athletes. One name that comes to mind is Mike Hillyard at Southern Indiana University. He recruited Titus Winders and now his younger brother Silas Winders. Both are sub 9 minute two milers as seniors. Silas never got another shot at it this year as his senior high school season has been cut short.

Not true in most cases. Kids do go for cheaper options, but you do realize kids will walk on to a school before taking a full ride at another because parents have money and they’re delusional thinking the bigger school is better.
She gets them because she sells herself and has a vision for that athletes future. Same athlete goes to Michigan for a visit and the guy is dull and has no personality no vision and just says oh you can be apart of this history, heres your seat on the bus. These kids are getting big offers anyway so that is irrelevant. Fully funded is fully funded if Michigan is going after kids for 50% then they’re not going after the right kids to help them win.
I guess you are talking about women because guys don't get full rides. Track rosters are as large as 60 guys.12 scholarships need to be used wisely if you want to score well. Granted, a few teams like NAU dump almost all of those into distance.

Not necessarily but yes it’s more common that women get the full ride. However, what we are failing to mention is the entire merit package. I’ve seen some schools only need to offer 60% athletic to give them a full coupled with academic merit and scholarship programs the university offers. Sometimes you’re just at a better University to create packages of aid and also you have to look for kids that you know will qualify for all of these things that will drive the cost down versus a bigger school. See that’s what makes a great recruiter. Let me stop I might be teaching you all too much on here!
Prior to this I had no idea that some places are able to offer a better financial package to the student-athlete, which then makes the coach a better recruiter than some other place that can't offer a better financial package... thanks for revealing that little nugget (sorry for the sarcasm but I couldn't resist)
Seriously though, of course some coaches are better saleswomen/salesmen than other coaches... but some of those aren't good in other areas of coaching.... which is not shocking news either.
All the current situation does is add yet more complexity to the already complex recruiting process.... for both SAs and coaches.

Colorado Boulder men - Aschbrenner, Powell, Niednagel, Derouin

Stanford men - Boyden, Sprout
Wisconsin men - Brown, Bishop, Liking, Paleen
UNC women have Tayrn Parks plus four more individual qualifiers to NXN or FLN.
Parks said she was looking at Stanford until Miltenberg left for UNC.
My son received a full tuition academic scholarship plus $6K. His athletic scholarship of 10% covered the remainder of his room and board. After moving off campus, the school sent us $10K every year. It does not matter to the parent or kid where the money comes from but many people on this site wrongly assume that kids are getting large athletic or even full athletic scholarships when that is not the case. Much of the athletic money goes to sprinters and jumpers who do not qualify for as much academic aid as distance runners.
Todd Witzleben at the University at Buffalo is a great recruiter. It's a shame he can't recruit out of NY.
One word: Binghamton

Isn't that the same guy who made that 800 post on twitter about having the most sub 1:50 800 guys in the last 2 years? Even funnier, the post was inaccurate. Heard some horror stories from kids that did and didn't go there!
I'll agree Riley puts a great deal of effort into her recruiting. Looking at her instagram, fb, copious videos and tik toks would make any 18 year old female want to run there. she has a high rate of injury in her program though and some of the athletes she claims to have coached in her bio, like Brittany Aveni and Madeliene Kopp, were coached by Mark Mueller. She also claims some male athletes on her bio but she has only ever coached women at Duke. Future recruits would do well to ask smart questions and make sure that they truly are being coached by Riley when they sign on the dotted line .
Riley has always been a great recruiter, okay coach. Look at how Vanderbilt has blown up since her departure.
Wisconsin would be better
You won't get a faster response than Harwick at Dartmouth.
She is amazing at recruiting. The amount of effort she puts into each athlete and the vision she has is phenomenal... it is about a lot more than just the name of the school (as another poster commented) and even if I was offered LESS money by McDonough than I was at some school that's fancier, I'd still be inclined to go with McD. You can really feel how much she cares about each athlete and how good the team culture is. Her recruiting style makes you want to be apart of it!
Campbell - never even heard of that school prior to Lawrence Kipkoech and they’ve had a bunch of VERY ELITE guys.
Iowa State steadily got WORSE under "McD" though. I honestly cannot think of any top tier recruits she's signed at any school.
She might do well at Toledo but she won't even come close to matching the success of HADSELL.
u never really know what the situation was in the past, but I guess you’ll just have to wait and see for now. Toledo is on the rise.
