Right on Hereford. Left on Boylston. Goosebumps.
I miss the energy at the athlete’s village.
Prefect running weather in Boston this morning. OF COURSE.
Good answer angryjohnny ??
I passed Dick and Rick Hoyt about 15 years ago turning left onto Boylston, I think I probably ran between 3 and 3:05 from corral 3 and they had gotten an early start time......I’ll never forgot the reaction of the crowd when they saw them. Goosebumps
What do I miss most?
The freedoms we used to have in America.
1996, the 100th. I’m standing in the 999-1999 corral pissing myself with nerves. Massive cheering erupts to my right. Into the corral slides Bill Rodgers, the hero of my youth without whom I probably wouldn’t be standing there. He lines up right next to me. We exchange greetings, shaking hands both gloved in BR white gardeners gloves. The gun goes off and here I am, a nobody from New Jersey, running side by side in the legendary Boston Marathon with the legendary Bill Rodgers. Not only one of the highlights of my running career, one of the highlights of my life.
The general easiness party atmosphere of the whole course - spectators tailgating all down the highway - bbqs, fresh air, playing catch etc just enjoying life, welcoming you to their town.
I miss the days when an undoped American actually had a chance to win the Boston Marathon.

I ran part of a marathon while chatting with Bill Rogers, too! Wasn't Boston but nonetheless I ran about a half-mile with Bill Rogers ~mile 21 of a marathon before he took off and, dammit, I just couldn't hang with him. Cool dude he was (is, I suppose).
Last year was my first Boston (This year would have been my second) and I was amazed at how loud the Scream Tunnel was. Not only that, but how the sound carried for so long. You'd be in the hills leading up to it and could hear it as you crested each rise, then nothing as you descended, then you'd hear it again, then nothing. You get the idea.
Last two years were my first Boston Marathons. The first I lived in Colorado and it was pure misery due to the weather, but I wasn't trying to run fast due to poor training anyways. Last year I was fit and had a very painful last 5 miles but PRed. I live here now and was looking forward to partying and enjoying it from the sidelines for the first time.
I still consider Hall’s 2:04:58 at Boston to be the AR. No such thing as a wind-aided ‘thon.
Lovely pic of 3 pals:
The running celebration of pure joy, singing songs and tapping as many hands as I could-especially the kids. Never ran it fast to Get a good time; ran it to Have a good time, 8x.
Harpoon IPA's after the finish!
seriously who cares what Gault thinks?
Ran the course with no problems.

I can’t imagine what it was like to cross the English Channel on D-Day, but that bus ride from Boston to Hopkinton in 2018 felt a lot like the opening scene of Saving Private Ryan. Sitting there in cold silence looking out the window at the spitting rain and occasional dusting of snow, we all knew we were about to be in a world of hurt but there was no turning back.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
