this morning i was doing a workout on a cinder track which was built in the 50's. the surface is like really fine gravel, and a buddy of mine said that its 440 yards around. how much longer is it than a regular 400m track?

The 440yd track is about 2.3m longer per lap.
2.56 meters longer. But I think the germane question is how much you lose per mile if you count 4 laps to a mile- the answer is you are 9.35 meters short per 4 laps.
That is 10 and 2/3 yards, or about 1.5 to 2 seconds in time for most any runner.
