Notice how its almost all Democrats run cities.... They truly want America's economy destroyed by dragging this all out as long as possible. They will do anything to defeat Trump, which is never going to happen.

Or put another way, those democratic cities use science and advice of experts to make informed choices instead of following an uninformed, science denying, asshat. Further, these democratic cities and communities are the lifeblood of our economy. Do the research, the blue coasts make all the money while the red center sucks off coasts.
States and cities seem to be in a race to see who can close (or keep closed) their economies and social gatherings the fastest. I guess people think the gov't printing money endlessly will keep the economy from complete collapse.
Since this is running board, I'll try and put this in context. The longer a runner is injured and can't run, the longer it will take to recover. If the injury is really serious, the runner's career may be over. There are serious consequences to all this money printing and this extended shutdown. It will take many years for the economy and society to return to normal. I still don't know a person who has had this virus. I don't know a person who knows a person who has had this virus. Most of the people dying from this had serious underlying health conditions. I would rather risk getting this virus than have a restricted unsatisfying lifestyle for months on end. Life has an element of risk. Do people really want to hide in their houses for the next 2-4 months until the gov't tells them they can come out now?
Amurica was over when Trump got elected.
If you look at the bigger picture Asia is, where the growth will be in the next 50 years. It's just a numbers game.
This is a poor analogy.
The better analogy:
If you are injured you can:
Rest and recover...play it safe and come back when you're sure you're healed, but lose some fitness (aka the economy).
Come back as soon as you start feeling better. Then you are back a little earlier and if all is good you lost less fitness (the economy isn't as bad). Or it ends up you came back to soon, you get re-injured and everything has to start all over---and you end up being in worse shape in the long run.
Considering the "injury" in my analogy represents a virus that can potentially wreak havoc, I think I choose the rest and recover by playing it safe choice.
America is losing its way, not because of Covid19. It’s because of the same old weakness that a great many societies have had for giving away their brains to loud-mouthed preachers and demagogues who promise great things but never deliver. These people fail to understand how all of the great progress that humanity has made has been achieved through reason and cooperation. We had a great run once religion and state were separated but now they’re being commingled because a lot of people have, once again, been willing to give away their brains to loud mouthed preachers and demagogues.

That's accurate, if you realize that for many people, especially in fundamentalist Christian communities, politics is essentially the same as religion -- i.e, if you attempt to show a political view is unsupported by facts, they perceive it as an almost violent attack on their entire reason for being and/or way of life.

I take your point. Using your analogy, I would say: you feel a little twinge and then you take a few months off. You've played it safe. But you've not been able to train or race. By the time you get back at it, the season is over and you're back to square one. I believe that much of the economy has been shut down needlessly. I will admit my position is being completely ignored. But we'll see if the economy bounces back. Sometimes a runner takes a long break and never returns to form.

This is why we have this situation, people will destroy anything for their political purpose. If trump weren’t in office this would have never blown up so much. Instead of caring what’s best for this country or for people as a whole, these people have made it all about their political agenda.
Good!!! I'm okay with this because the fireworks aggravate my anxiety.
A few good reasons:
1) As noted in the article, they are in fear that they pay now and then have to cancel thus expending taxpayer money.
2) Cities may be seeing a loss of revenue from tax receipts and hotel taxes and looking at cost cutting measures. It is fiscally sound.
in typical republican fashion, you are literally too stupid to insult. history and reality show that everything republicans touch get burned to the ground. republicans create a problem, blame democrats for the problem, then block them from fixing the problem if possible. local all the way to president. democrats spend their entire time cleaning up after republicans. spare us your right wing propaganda.

Yes, in Democrats' minds, "America" is the problem and the "solution" is destroy it.

I feel so sorry for you that you put all your hope/blame on politicians and political parties. I’m responsible for myself and my family. If I want something better, I’ll work harder. The benefit of living in this free country that so many people are trying to destroy.
Our fireworks were cancelled last year due to lack of money/sponsors.
I think we were planning to have fireworks this year.
Calm down, Snowflake!

Yeah yeah yeah. Next week they will use the same "reasons" to cancel Christmas
