I am staying in the city this weekend and want to know where to run. I remember there being a bike path along the river if I am correct how do I get there? Where is their to run?

Your best bet is to run along the Wissahickon Creek. You can pick it up right off of Ridge Avenue where Manayunk begins. There is a MAB paint store and right across the street is where you could start your run. The paved path goes for about 2 miles before you meet the Forbidden Drive. This is a dirt/crushed gravel road that is about 10 yards wide that goes for a little more than 5 miles. Out & Back from Ridge Ave will get you about 15 miles. If you don't want to run on main path, on both sides of the creek there are numerous trails, although some are very washed out.
Option 2 would be a loop around the Schyulkill River. Start/Finish at the Art Museum heading down river crossing at the Falls Bridge. There is a macadam path that is about 6 feet wide the entire loop - 8.4 miles. It will be very crowded during the weekend with walkers, joggers, rollerbladers and bikers. The sights are good but it is very congested. Another option if you want a really long run, is to start at the Art Museum, head down Kelly Drive and continue past the Falls Bridge. This will take you right to Ridge Ave and the aforementioned MAB paint store. Continue onto the Wissahickon for a nice long run.
Option 3 would be to run along the Schyulkill River path. This is mainly a bike path, but there are a few runners. The paved section continuously runs from just past Manaynk and goes to Oaks (this is about 15-20miles). From Oaks it becomes packed gravel and then switches between macadam until it ends at Green Lane Reservoir (another 15-20 miles).
Enjoy your visit!
Option 4: Run at the Belmont Plateau Cross Country course. There is a main trail, various fields, horse and mountain bike trails. A friend of mine says that it is the best in the city. He loves the fact that it is usually empty. It is referred to as the city's "female G-spot". A place that is there but rarely hit upon.
Visit the "best in philly" specialty running store PHILADELPHIA RUNNER ("PR") on 16th and Sansom if you need any shoes or gear! Enjoy your stay.
Philly is a great running city, althoug a car helps.
If you are a competitive runner (or just like to pound), you should find out where the Philly track club is meeting on Sunday. They usually get about 20 guys and a girl or 2.
They have a pretty sweet site too -check out the message board to find out when + where they meet.
another great place is the John Heinz National Wildlife refuge.... ran there this morning. pretty soft/shaded trails, (only one snake encounter) and right across from the philadelphia airport hotels. There are a few seperate entrances - park your honda element and the trail is right there.
Is this the same Weiss coming to Philly and getting married this weekend? Good for you for getting your run! Priorities Priorities!!! :-)
Another place in the Philly Area to run is the Valley Forge Park.
