This is indeed a goal of mine, and one that my wife and I have been working towards for two years now. The "pandemic" has actually helped jump us forward many years by changing my place of employments attitude towards work-at-home.
Prior to pandemic, our executives were completely against the idea except for one off days here and there (I am in IT, where WFH makes perfect sense). In the 8 months or so of pandemic, we have been WFH 100% since mid-March, and surprise surprise, the executives see we are every bit as productive at home and now the need for all that expensive real estate in a downtown area is perhaps not needed.
WFH isn't the only thing that is required for this dream though. I want to have enough money that I could "retire" if needed and not have to worry about losing the land. So I want to buy that outright, and there is nowhere in the US where 100 acres or more is "cheap", so that is going to take some real cash. Then enough cash to build a rudimentary homestead and the equipment to maintain it all.
