Hard hitting journalism. After 20 years your focus is on poop.
THis is a serious concern for all serious marathoners. When I was training for my first marathon, I remember thinking, "What do I have to do if I need to go the bathroom." I wasn't worried about poop but more so pee so I practiced and peed my pants once in practice to see how bad it was .

Serious marathoners plan ahead. They avoid contact with sick people in the weeks before the race. They learn while training what foods cause problems and avoid those foods in the days before the race. They don’t overeat the day before the race. They don’t eat salad or spicy foods the day before the race. If the race is out of town then they drink bottled water instead of local water.
On the morning of the race they wake up early enough and drink water or coffee to help clean out the pipes before the marathon. Before heading out to the race, if they notice any rumbling in the plumbing then they’ll take a dose of Loperamide (Imodium AD) to clog the drain so they can get through the race.
Never ever pee on yourself unless the race is almost over because the injury from extensive chafing might lead to dropping out. Major marathons have port-a-cans so use that instead. If you need to pee then you didn’t learn to hydrate properly for the marathon during your training.
If your digestion is a factor in the marathon then it’s because you weren’t well prepared for the race.
