To "seattle track club", astute observation.
Vanessa has improved every year since walking on to Stanford 6-7 years go. Part of that is due to hardly ever being injured or sick . . . she just reads her body well and knows when to chill.
However, he one "fault" is that she just doesn't have a kick. Even in this 14:48 race today, her last 200m was only in the 34s (while Koko, for example, ran a 31+).
At the Oly Trials she not only will have to contend with Karissa but also Shannon Rowbury, Rachel Schneider and her own teammate Elise Cranny, all who beat her at USATFs last year. And, a number of 1500 runners who will double back, in some cases a big name or two who did not make top-3.
Vanessa was to run the 10k at Payton Jordan last year but bailed at the last moment due to a sore foot . . . her only race I know of since her high school days which she had to miss due to any reason.
So, yes, I do believe you will see Fraser run a 10k this spring . . . likely the Payton Jordan again . . . then do the 10k -5k double at the Trials. This will make the women's 10k extra competitive with Hall, Infeld, Gwen and a number of marathons who don't get top-3 this Saturday.
This race is the big breakthrough she's been looking for since joining BTC in summer 2018 . . . but I wouldn't go penciling her in for Tokyo just yet.
