Bump...Anyone with these shoes yet?
Another bump. New Balance has these for 25% off right now and I'm really excited to try them. They look like the Propel but with proper lacing (my only gripe which many others seem to share). At ~9oz. and plenty of rubber on the outsole, they ought to hold up similarly to the v6 and the Propel which means 600+ miles for me vs. 300 for the v7 (painful miles, I should add).
So who can confirm that they are as good as they look on paper?
Why so heavy -- is the Fuelcell foam just super dense? 8.9 oz. vs. 6.9 oz. for the v7 totally changes the shoe IMO.
kind of conflicting info - NB says "..signature REVlite midsole tech..." while at the same time talking about "fuel cell foam." RW says midsole is Revlite. Who knows....

The 890v6 was ~9 oz. The v7 was a totally different shoe. I liked the upper but hated everything else about it. The outsole wore about as quickly as the Beacon v1 did for me, maybe 300 miles before any semblance of tread was gone. To top it off, the v7 lacked enough cushion that I couldn’t run more a few miles in it a few days in a row before I got really bad hip pain. I went back to the v6 and that all went away.
Fuelcell vs. Revlite: I don’t think there’s much weight difference between the two however Fuelcell is a lot springier based on my experience with the Propel and several Revlite shoes. I like Revlite when it is done right (890v6) but Fuelcell seems to be a good match for me, too. The big question will be if the 890v8 makes for as good of a tempo shoe as the v6 was. Worst case, I’ll pick up the Rebels for that.

Revlite has to be a typo there. The midsole and outsole look very similar to those on the Fuelcell Propel.

you cannot go by how it looks on the website.
the current 890 model, version 7, is revlite. it's firm as heck, but a quick shoe for good surfaces. not a daily trainer.
The New Balance website and Amazon have it listed as the Fuelcell 890v8. I am pretty sure what you see is a Fuelcell Midsole with ground contact Revlite on the outsole. It looks like it sits in between the Rebel and Propel. The upper looks more traditional and the midsole looks like the Rebel. The weight is in between the two. I am guessing it is a more traditional version of the Rebel because of the upper and Revlite outsole. Probably a bit firmer and more stable. The upper looks kinda cheap and roomy like the Propel though. Looks a bit too padded for a speed shoe in the upper as well.

I have the 890v6, 890v7, and Rebel, all size 9EE, all sitting right next to me (ok, by the garage door but I just compared side by side again).
890v6: 8.7 oz., full rubber outsole, no ground contact foam, Revlite printed right on the midsole, firm as heck but makes a good daily trainer for me
890v7: 6.7 oz., a couple of spots of rubber, but mostly ground contact foam, apparently Revlite but no mention of it on the shoe, firm as heck and made my hips hurts whenever I ran more than a few miles in it
Rebel: 8.7 oz., full rubber outsole, no ground contact foam, says Fuelcell right on the midsole and in the name of the shoe, soft and springy making it a good slower paced shoe for me but not so heavy that I don't feel like I can run faster in it
On New Balance's website, the 890v8 is referred to as the 'Fuelcell 890v8'. It has essentially no ground contact foam based on the pictures. Quoted weights I've seen peg it right around the weight of the Rebel, perhaps slightly lighter given my small shoe size and the fact that my Rebels have lost some weight from the wear on the outsole after 270 miles (still plenty of life left, though).
Given that parts of the description for the 890v8 match the 890v7 but all of the pictures match other parts of the description while also matching the name of the product (Fuelcell), I'm pretty skeptical that the Fuelcell 890v8 has anything but Fuelcell foam or has any ground contact Revlite foam.

Where are you seeing ground contact foam here?

Sorry, I typed 'Rebel' several times in an earlier post when I meant Propel.
Here is the Propel outsole:

Yeah, I was going to say that the Rebel is definitely lighter than that at like 7 oz.
The 890v8 is definitely Fuelcell based on the tongue, insole, name, and look of the midsole. I think they're just using ground contact revlite for the outsole. That means either all of that outside, or just the encircled part in the forefoot maybe.
From NB website:
6 mm drop; due to variances created during the development and manufacturing processes, all references to 6 mm drop are approximate
FuelCell foam delivers a propulsive feel to help drive you forward
Ground Contact EVA Outsole with Rubber Pods
Ground contact REVlite midsole delivers incredibly lightweight with superior durability
Synthetic/Mesh Upper
Revlite is just their name for EVA. Just like Fresh Foam is their other name for EVA with laser engravings. So we can kinda assume the ground contact EVA and revlite are the same thing.
It doesn't look like the Revlite is a part of the midsole. Just a thick outsole essentially. As for which part of the outsole is Revlite and which or if any of it is rubber, I am not sure. I think the encircled part is the Revlite though.
Anyways, who cares. It just looks like a worse version of the Rebel for $10 less. Except you can get the Rebel for cheaper now. The upper here looks too cushy and looks big and cheap like the Propel.
New Balance says in the main description for the 890v8: Featuring signature REVlite midsole technology and a gusseted tongue for a snug midfoot fit, this serious running companion delivers a sleek and lightweight design perfect as a daily trainer or dedicated workout shoe. This running shoe for men features a lightweight knit upper for supreme breathability.
Which is a spot-on description of the 890v7 but not the v8. Also, what is a ‘ground contact midsole’ other than a laughable typo?
Anyway, I care because if the 890v8 is what I think it is (Fuelcell foam, proper lacing, and a rubber outsole) I finally have a replacement for the 890v6, a shoe that I found could do just about everything but does feel a bit harsh especially when I’m on tired legs. If the v8 is more like the v7 in feel but heavier, I’m pretty much guaranteed to hate it. The only redeeming quality of the v7 was the upper and that has completely changed on the v8.
Just curious, would you do most of your daily runs in the Rebel including the occasional jaunt onto some rocky trails? The 890v6 did that for me whereas I never even had the guts to try the v7 on the trails. And it certainly wasn’t an every day shoe for me, no matter how hard I stubbornly tried to make it one.
Anyone tried these yet? Odd that there are no reviews of this shoe anywhere, and even New Balance's website gives a contradictory description with no weight listed.
If these are like the Rebel but for rearfoot strikers they could be a great tempo shoe. If it's more of a successor to the Propel I'll take a pass - I found those to be way too mushy and clumsy with the wide midsole.
There were also rumors of a Fuelcell Prism tempo shoe back in the winter, anyone hear any more about those?
By the way, I've been running in the new 880v10s and love them. I thought they were going to ruin them with the firm Fresh Foam, but it turns out the new Fresh Foam X is much softer and super responsive. They feel a bit more cushioned and a hell of a lot quicker than the old 880s.
I’m dieing to find a review of this - I’m hoping it’s a Fuelcell TC without the plate? Doesn’t seem to look like it. But the description is totally confusing as I’m kinda interested in the Adidas Adizero SL20 or this ..... different shoes but you know - I like running shoes.
Still no reviews out there and am thinking of taking a flyer on them anyway. As with most companies, New Balance appears to have furloughed quite a few people since most running stores for walk-ins are closed. That makes it tough to get any insight. For comparison purposes, I really like the 890V7 and the Fuel Cell Rebel and have used both up to 26.2.
I purchased these through the New Balance's web store. Size 8.5 UK, standard width.
I've run just once with the new shoes, about 12km, so the comments are based on that. The thing is, I'm not sure if I want to run ever again with these. The problem is that these are the first shoes which made my soles completely numb. It feels like there isn't any cushion.
I'm a huge fan of 890v6 and skipped 890v7 so can't compare v8 with that. I've been using v6 as the daily driver for the last couple of years (I have about 6 or 7 pairs in the closet) and compared to that model, v8 feels completely different. I can't see anyone using these as daily drivers. I would pick Hanzo S V2 over these for a 10km E and I think that says how badly disappointed I'm with the v8.
No reviews & lower price makes me think that something went wrong with this model. Or my feet are just incompatible with the v8.

Well, there's one positive thing about 890v8: I think they look quite good. Here's some pictures (Hope the forum software can display these correctly. I couldn't find a way to upload the photos directly into this post):
