You're all assuming she's talking about foot speed, but she's clearly talking about leg speed.
She probably meant leg speed velocity.

"I just flew in from a trip with my family and I ran a 6.8 speed outside my house for a 100 meter yard dash … I did 6 in high school so I’m trying to gain speed !!"
Use a little common sense. I will translate this quote for you.
She "ran" (actually it was more of a jog) on her YARD for 100 meters at 6.8 mph (8:49/ mile pace). She could only run 6.0 mph in high school so she is trying to gain speed and it has been successful as she is now .8 mph faster.
I also don't believe her legs are big because she just incurred an injury. (Not that there is anything wrong with thunderthighs)
Plot twist: she’s actually fast and goes sub 13 in the 100
"Rocket surgery"? Is that what doctors do when the fireworks display goes terribly wrong?

To the mods: your "improvements" fail to enable the quoting of posts, as I've just seen above.

Alternatively, 100 meter yards maybe is an areal measure meaning she ran in a square (NB: of course a circle would minimize perimeter, but not everyone is that sophisticated). Like run 10m, turn 90 degrees, 10y, turn 90, 10m, turn 90, 10y (you don't need to turn 90 at the end).
I can remember doing these kind of runs in high school. And baseball is another example.
Do you turn 90 (degrees) clockwise or anticlockwise?
Brit prolly ran 100 yards on her tread at 6.8
When you know you know.
