Blade Runner is really good. The book is better than the film, but both still hold up today.

I've never been able to finish a Phillip K. Dick book. Great concepts, but he has absolutely no writing style.
I watched the first one, the Final Cut version I think, and I think I need to watch it again to understand it better. It was a good movie though.
I saw 2049 in theaters and enjoyed it so much I went back two weeks later and saw it again. It is visually a masterpiece, and Joi is probably the most beautiful and pleasing female character to ever grace the screen (which was the point of her character). I honestly found just the idea of such a thing as Joi to be highly thought-provoking and worth the $10. The film was maybe a tad too long, but it was very good and worth seeing. You should definitely turn the phone off and concentrate on the film while watching it though. Like others have said, neither are films you can turn your brain off to.
I heard good things about this movie, but dang was it ever boring
literally cannot get through Blade Runner without falling asleep

If you only watch one version, make it the final cut. Settle in for an 80s movie... and then watch it a second time after a few weeks with a deeper reflection on the philosophical questions/ideas it poses.
By the way... I didn’t enjoy it the first time but now after seeing every available version and screening it probably 20+ times with different people, it’s probably my #3 or 4 movie of all time.
To be fair probably both movies--and certainly the first--would be better viewed on the big screen...in contrast to a movie like "Terminator," which stands up very well IMO on TV/computer.
I think it's just easier to immerse yourself in the first movie if you're in a good-sized theater. On a TV/computer, even one with quite a large screen, BR seems to flatten out.
I will say that I had no particular problem with the studio's cut (the first version I saw) of the first movie, nor with its pacing. But that was nearly 40 years ago, of course, and lots of people want quicker scenes nowadays.
Which by a natural and easy transition somehow reminds me (and I don't want to hijack or politicize the thread) that people are saying the low-budget, kinda-hokey videos that Republican Voters Against Trump are putting out may be particularly effective with older voters. Maybe it's just that old farts (like me), besides generally smelling okay, don't enjoy shows with a lot of rapid cuts.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
