I am a beginner triathlete. I’ve been doing the training for three months. I’ve never done one before, I transitioned to this type of training because I seem to be more injury prone when I’m just running.
I have gone from 45 mpw of just running to 25 mpw of running, 60 mpw pfbiking and 2.5 mpw of swimming. I feel like it builds base the same, I’m just as fit but running less.
My aim in feb is a sub 90 sprint tri debut. My 5k is around 20 minutes, my 1 mile swim is just sub 25 min open water so those are fine, I’m more of a natural swimmer than I am anything else. I want to place top 3 in my age group (20-24F).
It is the bike that lets me down, I am absolutely awful. Even averaging 12 MPH on a road bike feels like it gives me a good workout. Sometimes I feel like I’d have an easier time running a sub 75 quarter mile than cycling it, then again, my area is hilly. But that isn’t an excuse because I see people who look completely out of shape breeze past me on the roads, I am in good shape and have strong legs (for sprinting though, not fast but sub 15 sec 100m for a female with no sprint training obviously doesn’t indicate physical weakness in the legs, my quads/thighs are developed) - basically, I look like a cyclist but I perform horribly... I don’t understand why I cannot generate any power at all on a bicycle, it is not as though I have zero experience on a bike either - I cycle 10 miles to work and back three times a week.
I need help. Is it my low body weight that makes me unable to generate the power I need? I am only 100lbs (155cm), I am also very small boned/framed. Or is it my form? I can average 15 mpw on a bike for an hour put I have to stand up, pedal very fast and very hard and output all of my power the whole time.
