Uhh, that was over a week ago. There was plenty of talk about it. How are you just hearing about his performance now?
seriously, dude. get with the times. it's not like we're having to thumb through the newest track and field news for results anymore.

That means nothing if you can't produce when it counts. US Champs (hint, hint)...
Somebody recognizes Rankin. The IAAF has just listed him in the top 50. Pretty good start for somebody who was an unknown last year. There are now 5 American's in the IAAF top ten. Webb is now ranked 13th. His 3:48 mile moved him up 4 places since the beginning of the month. All he probably needs is a good showing in the WC finals to move into the top ten. Like last year he has the 4th fastest mile time in the world. Rankin's 3:35.26 help move him up 40 places in the world rankings.
Below is a list of the Ranked American's in the 1500.
(IAAF - August 1st)
13. (17.) Alan WEBB 83 USA 1227
27. (27.) Rob MYERS 80 USA 1186
41. (45.) Chris LUKEZIC 84 USA 1148
43. (46.) Scott MCGOWAN 81 USA 1142
48. (88.) John RANKIN 82 USA 1135

There are actually six americans now in the top 50 for 1500 meters. Lagat, whose nation is listed as "KEN," should appear as "USA."
did mcgowan also run 335???
when and where?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Lagat would be listed as Kenyan because the majority of his times which contributed to his ranking were run while he was representing Kenya, and the IAAF will not note that he is an American in the rankings until at least a year after he began representing the US.
I have to correct myself. Earlier I said there was 5 American's in the IAAF top ten when I meant top fifty. Maybe it was a Freudian slip. It looks as if we are revisiting 1982 next year for US 1500 meter running. Just as Maree and Scott were battling it out Lagat and Webb will be pushing each other next year. Once again a top African nationalized citizen will be pushing a sub 3:50 American to new heights. Scott came awfully close to both Coe and Cram.
To get a top fifty ranking McGowan must of placed in an important meet somewhere. Honestly, I don't know much about McGowan other than he is a sub 4-minute miler. He will probably be down to 3:35 by next year.
With Lagat and Webb running next year it is going to be a fascinating US championship 1500. The several Americans with newfound 3:35 speed are going to be battling it out for the third position. Suddenly, US 1500-meter running is interesting again.
