Not true. Social media (well, Facebook) has allowed families to stay connected who live in different countries or too far too visit. Instead of missing your grand children grow up by only seeing them every couple years, you can watch them grow up daily through pictures.
Email. Text. Regular mail. FaceTime. WhatsApp. Etc.
You do not need the medium of Facebook for this to happen. I'm not on Facebook and I FaceTime with my parents once a week so they can see the kids and we can catch up, we send photos nearly everyday on our family group text, and I get physical prints of photos of my kids a few times a year to send to my mom, who loves to frame them or put them on the fridge.
You don't need to let Zuck monetize your life in order to keep in touch with your family.
