Okay, so after a little research into the current state of NCAA middle distance, I've realized that A&M is a bigger powerhouse than I thought. 3 new freshmen (Victor Zuniga 1:53, Brandon Miller 1:49, and Allon Tatsunami Clay 1:46) along with Devon Dixon (1:44) has potential to run 7:21 in a hypothetical 4x800m (WR is 7:13). Once the coach works with Zuniga, Miller, and Clay, the 800m title is in the hands of A&M before the season even starts
Iowa had 2 guys at 1:46 and 2 at 1:48 last year. 3 of those guys return and they added a 1:49 frosh. 7:21 could be run in their sleep.
Smart move by him. Hope he can succeed at the next level and he hasn't burned out already.
Burned out?? The guy has run far, far less than his peer group of 2020 d/mid d recruits. To be honest, he's done very little in HS. His upside could be huge but like with anyone, you need God given ability of a very rare sort to get yourself into the sub 1:45 realm. Even if you're already sub 1:50. Should be interesting.

He has been running national meets for 10 years. That is a lifetime of high level racing.
Basically no indoor or XC resume to speak of (that I can see).
I know he has been running 800s for many years but he still might be undertrained. Possibly by a lot.
He basically did not compete during his junior year.
He holds every age group record for the 800 and 1500 from the time he could walk. He is done.

WR is 7:02.43
CR is 7:08.96
Don't forget about Carlton Orange also for A&M (1:46.4 for 4th place last year)
A&M already ran 7:14.02 in 2011 pre Brazier and Dixon era. On paper they should break that this year but
putting it together on that rare day when you run it(Texas Relays) is no small order given the heat conditions of that week; usually high 90s in very humid Austin weather.
The former had two 1:46 guys and two sub 1:50 athletes. This group this year will have have a 1:44, 1:46(2) and a
Miller will likely improve under the Texas A&M program, which is well-suited to runners like him. It is true that he ran 1:50 at a very early age and then stagnated, but it may well be that coaching has a lot to do with it. I doubt that this means he will ever do cross country. They'll double down on speed for him and with those training partners, he'll run 1:46-47 as a frosh or soph. Whether he then plateaus is another question.

Right, him "basically not competing his junior year" is a great sign for his improvement...
He ran 1:49 the summer after his freshman year and his PR is still 1:49.

Great. If he ever runs under 1:45.8 you can throw it in my face.
He and Grace Ping ran in all of the same junior regionals through the years. I expect both to have average college careers.

He was injured JR year but still dropped a 47 mid 400m and his XC 5k time is 16:55 by milesplit. Not terrible for a 400/800m runner
Nothing overly impressive there. Injuries are always concerning for future coaches. He raced at such a high level for so many years that he may be injured more than not.
SEC 800m Champ Brandon Miller
Haters gonna hate!
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
