I don’t think very much at all, Ewert and Covert got top 5 at both last year
Ewert was 3rd NXN 4th FL
Covert was 4th NXN 5th FL
And they only lost to Tuohy Chmiel Mascarelli and Hart bouncing back at FL
Doubling can be done at a high level for sure

I agree with you regarding Tuohy in 2018. She was running hard for course records, and did it consistantly for weeks on end. This year she and her coach seem like they have planned to stay in the 85% range for effort. She is running hard, but certainly not trying to push herself.
That period last year, actually pretty mush the whole season, was something else.
Tuohy will be running races 5 weeks straight this year. Last year NY Fed was cancelled because of weather so she got a break. Many top runners/teams took the Fed race off this year (ie Clair Walters), but Tuohy competed...likely for tradition and her team (both of which she seems to place a lot of emphasis on). So the fact that she isn't trying to break records or go after speed ratings is likely very smart.
As for Tuohy running Footlocker, I just don't see it happening...but man would it be great. For the life of me I can't figure out how FL and Nike haven't figured things out better. Nike does have the ability to grant admission to runners, but FL doesn't seem to. When your qualifying race is the same day as other races, why would you not come up with some method of offering the top runners a spot.
I'm not saying that Nike is a more premiere race than Footlocker...but when either of these races doesn't allow for some of the top runners to attend, or in Tuohy's case, possibly the best girls XC runner of all time....then their credibility goes in the tank. It's one thing if a runner declines to go for one reason or another...but to not even give the opportunity for some of the top runners...
can you imagine the attention that Tuohy vs Lane would have brought to XC....or now Tuohy vs Masciarelli

Tuohy was supposed to run against Masciarelli in at NBNO this past June...….until Touhy backed out.

I agree that Touhy will probably crash the Foot Locker championship
Not sure if she will show up for all the preliminary stuff or just end up running on the course right after it starts but she will probably be there
Either way there's no way that they would turn her away. Kind of like if you show up at a nice restaurant wearing in really awesome suit and driving a Ferrari. They're going to at least let you sit in the lounge.
How exactly is she going to crash (bandit) FLN?
After the race starts she jumps in? Gives them a 10 second head start? What adult in the room would recommend that?
Only way they let her run (if she doesn't qualify via the regional) is via some sort of waiver which obviously is unfair to others that want to run in the race but for whatever race couldn't/didn't make it.
Unfortunately these kids are forced to make the decision between NXN & FL.
Beyond all of that, in my opinion, there is way too much focus on these post season HS races... but that's just me.

Not sure how realistic it is that she could crash onto the course or run alongside the course.
I'm surprised Foot Locker doesn't offer some automatic entries to top runners.
I know someone said last year they called her last minute (I believe the week before) to ask if she wanted to compete. Does that mean she could skip the qualifying race? I would think they would want to have the best of the best battling it out at their competition.
Completely false. The only way into Footlockers is to qualify.
The sentiment seemed to be that either she would emerge from behind the runners once the race at started and weave her way through to the front and proceeded to win the race that way
Or else she would run alongside the main course and weave her way through the crowd and proceeded to show that she could easily win the race that way
I think both situations are unlikely but she is quite the competitor and will probably leave it to people wandering to build suspense.
Are you guys actually serious about this all?? She’s not crashing the course lol.... Case closed.
Katelyn Tuohy is very smart not to overdo things
Sydney masciarelli is a great young Runner
But come on Katelyn's PR at the 2-mile is almost 25 seconds faster and at the 5K is around 40 seconds faster
I mean let's really enjoy all the Great accomplishments that these young ladies achieved but this constant posting that somehow Katelyn Tuohy was ducking Sydney is just unreal I mean look at there track times it's not hard to see that there not super competitive at this moment

As I said, what adult in the room would recommend that? It's a bad idea from any standpoint.
(And there is absolutely no way she could run along side the course without running less or more distance ....not to mention dodging spectators the entire way.)
(and to clarify no one is doubting her competitiveness.)

That seems about right if all the girls were solely focused on nxn. Not sure if a couple of girls would just chill at nxn as a warm-up for Footlocker
Not sure what the point of that would be...
"Hey, I have a great idea! I'm going to fly across the country to wet/chilly weather in Portland to just run half-assed so I can fly out across the country again a week later and push myself to my max in warm weather San Diego!"
I would think, if anything, it would be the other way around - treat San Diego like a vacation and reward for the season, because Portland in December isn't exactly a "fun/relaxing trip regardless of competition" kind of situation... but for most (if not all), I would think their competitiveness would prevent them from taking either race easy.
she had an injury...
are you implying she should have run injured for your entertainment?
Does any one actually think Tuohy (or any of the top girls) is scared to race someone? These girls have raced against (both winning and losing) top competitors for years. To think they would avoid running a national race because of the competition is ridiculous!!
Maybe chill isn't the right word
Okay actually chill is a bad word to describe it
I guess I was trying to say that they want to be involved with both National meets
I guess I'm just trying to say that in the back of their mind they might be thinking all right get in nxn and see what happens but you know they got the race the following week so if they're running 4th or 5th or 6th or 7th at nxn they might not really go all out because they have a big race next week
I mean they're still going to run hard but I'm just saying it might not be quite the same fire in the belly so to speak
But they were going to really lay it all on the line at Foot Locker where they would have a chance to win
Lol yeah that crashing talk really got out of hand
I don't think anyone seriously thought she was going to crash Foot Locker
I think some people thought she might show up unannounced and somehow bypass security and protocol and make her way into the race
But I don't think anyone actually thought she was going to crash Foot Locker
I think it was more of just's our determination to run type sentiment
Did no-one get the Ferrari and fancy suit at the fancy restaurant analogy
If you show up in a Ferrari and fancy Italian suit at a fine restaurant without a reservation no one says you're crashing it
Yeah you might have to chill at the bar but you're still going to be treated with respect
It's a big difference between Katelyn Tuohy running unannounced at Foot Locker and crashing it's
Seriously why would anyone care if she lines up 10 seconds behind the other Runners at Foot Locker. That would end the whole crashing debate
Somebody needs to go out with Touhy and take a chance rather than just conceding the victory to her. Hopefully someone will.
She would be better off running the first half mile next to the course and then working her way onto the Course once they get to the place where it's just orange cones set up
That seems like a win-win solution
That seems like the most sensible solution!
Guys there's not going to be any crashing!
She'll probably run the first half mile on a parallel set up and then merge into the main course
I got the feeling that Touhy was ducking Starliper at Luock's maybe because was not quite 100 percent.
That's a recipe for disaster!
She's going to be running the mile splits 10 to 15 seconds faster than any other Runner is capable of
If they try to stay with her they'll just sabotage any chance they have for a good finish
It's much smarter to just run your own race and try to compete with the girls around you
I don't think you're considering how much stronger a runner she is. You can't just will yourself to run 30 to 40 seconds faster than you're capable of
