2020 Indoor MIAC Predictions! In order of racing schedule…
5000: Wilkinson wins to start the weekend. The only one who could challenge him would be Mueller, who should get 2nd. A couple of runners can contend for 3rd but I think Meilke pulls it out to complete the Carleton sweep. Kadrofske and Stumbo battle it out for 4th and 5th.
1. Wilkinson
2. Mueller
3. Meilke
Mile: 3 fantastic milers in this all with fresh legs. Some be a fun one. This will be the 3rd straight year these top 3 will compete against each other in this event with Wachter beating the other 2 both previous times. That said, I think Lonergan wins by a step over Wachter, with Gustafson finishing 3rd. Fern should get 4th and I’ll go Isahak at 5th.
1. Lonergan
2. Wachter
3. Gustafson
800: Toughest race to pick a winner, but I'm rolling with Middendorf to beat JCG and the field. 'Dorf performed well at indoor/outdoor conference last year and JCG has a habit of leading the first 500m of these races only to get out-kicked later on. Noah “NJ” Johnson gets 3rd, Lelinga gets 4th and Gifford 5th.
1. Middendorf
2. JCG
3. NJ
DMR: This will be the race of the weekend with some stacked line-ups. I just don’t see any team beating a full Tommie squad of Gifford-Prater-Carl-Wachter. It is close between Olaf/Carleton for 2nd, but Olaf takes it.
1. UST
2. Olaf
3. Carleton
1000: Day 2 for distance events will start with a bang– facility record in the 1k courtesy of Sean Lonergan. He wins his 2nd MIAC title of the weekend by once again beating Gustafson and Wachter in a fast race. Stresemann 4th and Gifford 5th.
1. Lonergan
2. Gustafson
3. Wachter
3000: Easy Wilkinson win- I don’t see how this couldn’t happen with a tired Wachter on his (potentially) 4th race and Mueller possibly not 100%. I’ll go Mueller taking 2nd and Fern the bronze. Wachter drops to 4th and Grant 5th.
1. Wilkinson
2. Mueller
3. Benitez
