I can see some jobs opening up down the line from schools trying to put a cork in their budget while this is going on.
Head coaches will mostly be fine, but plenty of assistant coaches may have furloughs or potential layoffs if they aren't considered as essential in bringing in new student athletes. Most can pick up where they left off (depending on how long this lasts), but for a lot of young coaches or coaches who have families and bills to pay, a furlough can be the final straw to move into a different profession to make their career.
I can't imagine any schools out there that don't have a hiring freeze in place for a position like a track or cross country coach, but with so many living paycheck to paycheck, this can easily be a wake-up call to find greener pastures using their degree.
Near term hiring freezes will make jobs rare. Long term, there's probably quite a few schools that will see a soft reset of how their programs are structured.
